Several months ago, I lost a kidney to cancer. It seems like ever since, some other health problem has surfaced, this time, depression and anxiety. My Dr. put me on Paxil once a day. He also gave me Xanax to help with the anxiety until the Paxil could kick in and take effect.

My questions is when?! I've been on Paxil for about a month now, and I don't feel different. I still have good and bad days, and there are times when I still find myself dealing with a great deal of anxiety! Will Paxil help with my anxiety? When will the meds take effect?

I understand that not everyone reacts the same way to certain medications. I also know about the withdrawl problems when trying to discontinue use of Paxil. That, in itself bothers me.

I would appreciate any input. Thank you!

I have just started having panic attacks, and I really don't have a reason for them. They are so terrifying that I think I am in panic over the thhought of having them. I have my worst ones at night, I go to sleep, I wake up with a full blown one. They are so horrifying I actually feel like going to the hospital.
I too started Paxil, TODAY, I took one at 3 pm today and was wondering why I woke up with a panic attack..I am assuming it takes time for them to work?

I am on-line, with head phones playing loud music..it seems to have calmed me down.

For me, it took about 6 weeks for it to start working.
I know how awful anxiety attacks can be and I hope that you find what works for you soon.

My panic attacks began at night too--and yes they are terrifying! The first time I did go to the hospital, and of course, they didn't find anything. My doctor prescribed Ativan--which helps calm you down fairly quickly. You may want to try that while you are waiting to see if Paxil has an effect.

I have a history of panic disorder. I've been on Paxil off and on for the last 5 years or so. It works for me, but it takes time to kick in. For me it takes about 5-6 weeks.

My Dr. has given me Vistaril for anxiety as well, and I often take that at night. They had given me Xanax at one point after I suffered from multiple pulmonary embolisms which really exacerbated my panic issues, and it just made my anxiety worse. It was horrible. The Vistaril really helped though.

I was on Paxil as well for Anxiety and it worked wonderfully for me. It took only about 4 weeks to kick in for me though.
