I have a strange eating disorder; I have a fear of trying new foods. I eat fruit, cereal, bread, chocolate, plain pasta. But I don’t eat things like vegetables, chicken, cheese. I have had this for all my life and I’m at a loss as to what to do. I know it’s affecting me as I have bad sleeping habits, I feel very cold most of the time and I get very painful stomach aches. But I am just too scared to try new things. Does anybody else have an eating problem like this, and does anyone have any advice???? Thanks x

I don't share your problem, but I have an idea that may help. Make an appointment with a nutritionist. They will tell you what amounts of each food group you should be eating and can offer suggestions about different foods for you to try. Also, make sure you take vitamins to supplement the nutrients you are not getting in your diet.

maybe you can slowly try adding those things a little at a time to what you are already eating. maybe add a few veggies to the pasta or some cheese? just a little bit and try to work yourself up to eating more?

What is the fear. Is is taste, is it weight gain? I agree with MariaBB about seeing a nutritionist I'm sure it will help. The side effects you're dealing with; being cold and stomach pain sound like what I went through with anorexia and bulimia. Stay strong and good luck.

It sounds like you are definitely lacking nutrition in your diet. I would see about both a therapist and a dietician. Especially maybe you could look into cognitive-behavior therapy? I didn't have this particular type of therapy myself, but in the end, I believe a form of this is what I used on my own to recover from both my ED and my depression.

In the meantime, definitely take a good multi-vitamin. Probably since you are lacking so many trace elements, it might be worth it to go to GNC or someplace like that and buy a multi-vitamin more potent in vitamins and trace minerals than what you can get at the drugstore or grocery store. In addition, you might try supplementing your diet with Omega 3 supplements (fish oil or flaxseed oil).

A lot of what you are describing are very similar physical symptoms I had when my anorexia was quite advanced and I was lacking a lot of nutrients and my electrolytes were very imbalanced.

ETA: I would also suggest you see your doctor and get some blood tests run, especially to check for anemia and to check your electrolyte levels.
