i took zoloft last year and that was good tho it made me a bit numb. i don't take anything now, but i take a lot of supplements - calcium/magnesium, vitamin B complex, vitamin C, zinc, fish oil. and I have one xanax tablet in my bag in case of emergencies!!! it's like my lifebelt.

Thanks for replying. I haven't tried Welbutrin yet. Tried Lexapro, Paxil,
Zoloft and next will be Effexor. They either made me anxious or upset my
stomach. I'm really getting concerned which of course is just making me
more anxious.
Thanks for your input.

I took Zoloft too and it started off real well. It really seemed to help with
the anxiety but then my stomach got upset from it. I do take all the
supplements you mentioned also, but they aren't doing the trick. Thanks
so much for your input.

Thank you alliejazz for your words of encouragement. I admit I am getting
discouraged, seems like we tried so many already and they either gave me
anxiety or upset my stomach. Then I get into the "what ifs" and I know
that is not good. I'm an active person and this is all just really getting me
down, but I will keep working at it!
Thanks again,

60mg of Cymbalta, Resperdil .25mg at 12:00pm and .5 at night time.
Have been on Lunesta 3mg, and just last week Xanax XR 1 mg in the morning.

I mean i feel better , wish doc would put me on Xanan IR becuase XR makes me feel very sleepy. would rather take .25 4 times aday, i dont plan on beeing on this for no more than 3-4 months until i ahve time to go through some therapy to get ot the root of my issues. I just hate having to feel guilty asking him this cuse it makes me feel like im just trying to get a buzz, when all i want is to be able to breathe on an elevator, not have compulsive twitches when in line at the store, basically ability to lead normal life.

Cymbalta has seemed to work pretty well for me, while i have the debilitating anxiety the depressed has lowered quite a bit, but its knida hard to judge, i feel though the longer im am on it the more i will know if its working, but i think it is.

The reperdial i am not really sure about i havent quite taken it as suggested by doc, by good enough to be able to evaluate it in my mind, ive just had about 3 or 4 missed doses in a few weeks. It makes me sleepy and have the munchies really bad all day, Its supposed to kinda clear brain fog, but other than today, i have not noticed any effects other than the eating thing. It does no have to be built up in system like other SSRIs so thats no the prob.
Will talk with doc on that one.

Lunesta - really helps me sleep. end of story

Well thats my reactions to my meds how it helps you

jodianne - I understand your frustration all too well. In the past 7 years, I have tried Dothiepin, Venlafaxine, Fluoxetine, Citalopram, Clomipramine, Sertraline, Duloxetine and now Fluoxetine again (long story). I only started the Fluoxetine again a few days ago, so I am yet to see how it works for me this time round. I've always either had problems with side effects, lack of effect, or they work for one aspect and not another. I find Propranolol to be good for helping to control anxiety attacks.

Good luck with the Venlafaxine (effexor) - I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Take Care,

Karen.

I have tried Wellbutrin and generic Prozac. The Wellbutrin made me sooooo dizzy I could not even get out of bed. That was horrible. I stuck it out almost 30 days with the generic Prozac and all it did was create the anxiety I had gotten rid of years ago. It did help with my mood swings, but it made me very flat. Like I didn't care about anything. However, the anxiety it created was so bad it shot my blood pressure up to 152/92 one day. Scary! I have been off of it for a little over 2 weeks and still fighting the anxiety it left behind. It's awful and makes me mad I even started on it. I have xanax .25 mg to help me get over the hump. I break those in half and take them as needed. Xanax is the only thing that has ever agreed with my body and I think it is a miracle drug. My understanding is it is only addictive to people with an addictive personality. I have never had a problem stopping it. But, I have never been on a dose higher than the least amount which is .25mg. Good luck!!! I hope you find something that works for you. It is extremely frustrating to feel the way we all feel with no relief.

Hi guys.I am going to go see the doctor and hopefully start Prozac.I was on it years ago, and it worked wonders.Just wanted to add that when I switched from name brand to generic fluoxentine,I had a lot of problems. At the time, the doctor told me that was impossible so I just stopped taking both. But I have been reading these threads and it is a common occurance.Something to think about...

Daftthing,
Looks like you've tried them all too. I see that most of what you have
taken have been generics. I read on the boards here that quite a few
people have had probs w/ generics. Maybe you could try the brands. I had
that prob w/ the generic Serzone. Serzone was ok but the generic wasn't,
it upset my stomach. I think from now on, I will ask for brand, I know it's
more expensive, but I can't be choosy, if it works, I'll pay the price!!
Hope you will find something that will work for you too.
Thanks so much for your reply.

jodianne - I've read lots about the differences between brand and generics too - however, being in the UK and relying on the NHS means I have very little choice. I think the only 'brand' name meds I had were (Venlafaxine) Effexor and (Duloxetine) Cymbalta.

Anyone else from the UK know much about requestine brand name Fluoxetine aka Prozac?

I have taken just about everything out there for depression. Right now I am taking Effexor XR 150 mg and generic Celexa 40 mg for depression and am doing great. I also take 200mg of Seroquel for bipolar disorder. I need to talk to my doctor about starting back on something for anxiety, though, because in the past month I've developed a lot of anxiety (I have GAD) and the antidepressants don't seem to be helping. I have taken Klonopin and Xanex in the past for GAD and panic disorder and Klonopin seems to work the best. It lasts much longer.

From what I have read on Effexor, I would not take it if I were you. I was going to, but from what I have read, it makes anxiety worse. ? Just passing along what I have found tonight. I am considering Cymbalta actually after reading here awhile tonight.

I am taking valium. That's the only medication that helps alleviate some of my anxiety.

I read on here that Effexor causes heart rate, BP and cholesterol to increase, so if you have heart issues, I would stay clear of it. I was going to try it too. =( Also I have read that Cymbalta is in the same group as the Effexor. ?

I think every medication works different for everyone. I have tried those from the SSRI (prozac family) and had horrible side effects after the second or third day. I am now taking effexor 150 now and have been for about 1.5 years and at first it totally controlled my anxiety, very exciting. But it has stopped working and and very anxious and afraid to come off from the nightmares that I have read about coming off. Even very slowly. I have also taken klonopin on a as needed basis for about 10 years. I try to take a little as possible and it works very well for me. Good luck to you.

I take Effexor XR 150 mg at bedtime and Wellbutrin XL 300 mg in morning before breakfast. It definitely helps with my depression. Unfortunately I was recently given the generic Wellbutrin, which is completely worthless. Not taking anything for my anxiety, but I should.

I was on Effexor XR for a year and it worked pretty well for me, although I was only diagnosed with dysthymia. The only problem I had with it was terrible withdrawal when I missed a pill and then when I eventually stopped taking them all together. Effexor has unique withdrawal symptoms that pretty much everyone gets whe they stop taking it. These symptoms include nervousness, mood swings, irritibility, shakiness, insomnia, nausea, and "brain shivers." It took me close to a month to fully withdraw. I quit cold turkey but from what I've heard tapering it off doesn't help much. The only thing that helped me during that time was Benadryll for some reason. Anyway, just a word of waring about it.

I take Paxil CR for depression (60 mg) and clonazapam for anxiety. Tried to go off Paxil and almost ended up in hospital because I was so angry and crazy acting even after 6 weeks. From what I've read, it is almost impossible to go off Paxil after you've taken it for years. I've been on it for 5 years. My depression seems worse than ever some days. I get depressed because I know I'm capable of getting a better paying job so that we can get out of debt, but my nerves and moods prevent me from being the person I need to be for a better job. It's a real hardship.

I have tried many medications for anxiety (Prozac,Paxil,Xanax) They all made me pass out tired! I had to stop taking them because I never got anything done, all I wanted to do was sleep. I started taking L-theanine and Passion Flower they are both all natural supplements. They help me a great deal without making me tired. If you have problems like I did maybe you could try these. Also, they have no side effects and are very safe. They also do not cause addiction like some other medications can such as Xanax. Take care and hope you feel better.

Hi how are you all doing?

I take Lexapro 10 mg in the morning. and Klonopin 1mg 2x per day. I have a very weak stomach and can't handle a lot of medications for depression;/anxiety... so Lexapro didn't give me any side effects and Klonopin either.

I hope you find something that works for you.

God bless.

((((((((((Daisy)))))))) I understand what you mean about your nerves and moods. I'm diagnosed as having Dysthymia, (a mood dis-order), but it's not as severe as Manic/Depressive. These "dark clouds" just seem to descend upon me with no rhyme nor reason. I don't know your age, but with me, I feel it's too late to "be anybody", as far as a career, and I feel a failure (my Dad predicted I'd be one). The only thing I feel that I did "right" is taking care of my children and teaching them academics, how to be a good citizen and to take pride in themselves. Having had extremely low self-esteem, I determined that I'd do everything in my power to give my sons a healthy sense of self.

I know what you mean about being the person you need to be to get a better job. At age 54, I feel like it's too late and I just have to do my best. My mistake was in not going back to college when the kids were in school, or even shortly after. Meanwhile, I keep lamenting "it's too late". (Do I want some crackers with that WHINE?) lol But for 10 years my Dr. has been trying to get me to go back to college. My son went to college after having graduated. It took him four years to decide to go, and he's doing excellent.
I'll suggest what was suggested to me. Take a course in your local Community College, just to get your feet wet. (so to speak)
May I ask what kind of job you have? Are you happy in it and want to advance? Or do you want to do something else totally different? Also, may I ask your age? Also, a support group would probably help you. I belonged to three from about 1998-2002, and it's amazing to be with others, with a trained Counselor present. In all three groups it was noted that I appeared to be the leader of the group even though I'm quiet and reserved. They said I "heard" as much from what WASN'T said, as from what was, and knew how to "zero in" in my observances of other group members and to ask questions that caused deep thought. I'm not trying to toot my horn. I'm just a people person, and sensitve to the needs of others. Please excuse my ramblings. Sometimes I don't know when to shut up, but I mean well. ~smile~

Cath, isn't dysthymia the pits? It feels like a "grey" area; Doctors seem to have a harder time treating it than bi-polar. Be careful with Benadryll. It can cause heart palpitations if taken excessively.

Xanax is a great drug, the best Doctors say for anxiety, taken correctly. It should only be used when an attack is eminent. My Dr. had me on 3 pills per day, and I think I just was dependent upon them. I later found out that if they are over-used, they can actually cause more anxiety. My Dr. gave me some samples of the melt in your mouth kind for when I have an anxiety attack at work. Another little trick that will work is to bite just a little piece of one off and dissolve it under your tongue. It will take affect faster.

Also, why do you feel guilty for taking Xanax? Are people saying things to make you feel badly? {REMOVED}
