I just came from my Gastro Dr. this morning to swallow a capsule camera. I asked the nurse to see my lab results from 2 weeks ago.
I was shocked that my iron levels were normal.
I did see that my platelet count was marked with an H for high. It was 540,000. The nurse said not to worry. I'm not really, because at one time I know that my platelet count was 690,000.
Is 540,000 considered high? I guess it was because it was marked high on the lab sheet.
Nothing was ever done for my high platelets, so I guess I shouldn't worry now. Just wondering what you opinions are.
Thanks!

Hello, Just wanted to say that I wish my platelets were as 'High" as yours are. My platelets have went over the 1 million mark on several occasions. I am on the drug Hydroxyurea. If my dosage is too low the platelets continue to rise. If I go on too many pills they drop, but as soon as I start taking a lower dosage they start to rise again. My hemotologist and I are still trying to figure out why. Yours are a little elevated, but I wouldn't worry about them. Just keep an eye on them, and if they continue to elevate get checked out. Good luck to you. Rene24

Hi rene
May i ask how old you are?
I am 27yrs old and have been taking hydrea for about 2 yrs.I take 1000mg daily that 2 capsules per day. once i stop them the levels go up . I have been lately taking vit e capsules as i ve read that these decrease aggregation of platelets. I ve also read on the board that some people had noticed a mild decrease in platelets. I am still checking this out but i suspect that they have help.
I am asking you how old you are coz i am concerned on the long term effects of these medications. My heamo says that the risk of developing leukemia is 0.2 percent however i am not so convinced.
Elphers i wouldn t worry so much if i were you however for now just keep monitoring and take action if you see an increasing pattern over the months.
Good Luck
Ellie
