View Full Version : What would you do?

I went to a GI doctor in January because I was having some stomach problems. I knew that I already had IBS and constipation. Due to the severity of my constipation, he referred me to a colon-rectal surgeon because I have rectal prolapse as a result. I had a colonoscopy by my GI doctor before going to my colon dr. Anyway, when I went to my colon doctor and he thought that there was something causing the constipation and the prolapse.

He sent me to get some testing like a defecography, a sitz marker test, and a balloon explusion test. It’s been a month since those tests and I haven’t heard from my doctor because he only works on Monday and he never followed through on the findings of those tests (even though I’ve called). To make a long story short, I’m not really comfortable seeing this doctor because of how I’ve been treated by the doctor himself and the staff.

I want to know the results of his findings because I’ve been going through lots of pain (Not having a bowel movement for at least 7 days at a time even after taking an enema on day 3, taking fiber supplements and Miralax with no results, lots of bloating, and tired all the time). I’ve already made an appointment for a second opinion with a general surgeon due to this situation. (There are not many colon-rectal surgeons in my area.)

However, has anyone been through having a rectal prolapse or these tests? What did your doctor recommend as a treatment/surgery? I’m trying to research all of the options so I can be informed about the procedures.

Thanks!

goodness greely! this sounds awful!
I haven't had a prolapse but I have seen a few,I would get on the phone and demand the results be forwarded on to the new surgeon you are going to see and also to your own doctor. You may need to be a bit pushy but just do it. then phone your own doctor and get the results.

It may be that you have already tried these things but in case you haven't if you have a prolapse that is showing then you can try cool, wet compresses to the rectal area and tip the head of your bed down so that you bum is higher than you head. the coolness & moisture can sometimes help reduce the swelling and pain. no heat to the area.
I really hope you get some help soon,

cheers
