Personally, I would avoid fats (even healthy ones) in a post workout shake. Carbs and protein are all your body are using at that point and fats just slow absorption, which is not what you want to do. Just my $0.02

Twinlab whey protein. No sugar, no fat. It is the best protein there is on the market. Most of what is out there is junk, plain and simple. Alot of these protein supplements contain alot of sugar or sweeteners. The best stuff for you isn't always the best tasting stuff. As for your trainer, why is he suggesting you use almond butter? This contains fat you do not need.

Adding fat to your protein shake causes you to absorb the protein over a longer period. This can be benificial, for example, if you have a couple of shakes before going to bed to help recovery, since the protein supply is slowly released through the whole night. One tablespoon sounds like a lot though.

But the point of an after workout shake is to shuttle carbs into muscles as quickly as possible. Slowing this process does not help.

My trainer wants me to have some fat and told me the two ways she wants me to have it is the almond butter in the shake and 1/8 cup raw peanuts for mid morning snack. I just do what she tell me..

try Muscle Milk...it tastes exactly like a milk shake, but has all the advantages of other protein powders.

How about adding eggs or egg whites and using skim milk instead of water? I was thinking of trying that. HAs anyone ever added eggs to their shakes? Any good?

Protein shakes won't make you gain waight (fat). Excessive calories will. If the weight you are ading is muscle... where's the problem?
