anyone with knowledge about Watson's discontuning generic OC.
My Dr. specifies brand on my 80mg. I get 120 per month. These are paid for by workmans comp. due to a work related situation. sometimes however, my card won't pay and I have to pay and submit for reemburisment.
I have him write 2 scripts****1 for 100 and 1 for 20. This way if it doesn't pay, all I have to come off the hip for is 20, untll i can get the issue resolved with the ins. co. Since Watsons product hit the market, i have tried them in the above situation with acceptable results.
As i was told, Teva and all others will no longer be available.
What do you know about this, and the company that will be manufacturing the generics? Pharmacyist told me the name but I can't remember it.
Ok all you experts*******LET ME HEAR FROM YOU

Hi Rexx, I checked the FDA electronic orange book, which is a list of companies that curently have legal rights to manufacture particluar drugs. Purdue, Impax and Teva are still listed as manuafcaturers of LA oxycodone. I also checked the TEVA sight and it's still listed. I checked the endo sight and it's still listed in their product line. I'm not sure where the best source of up to date info is after doing numerous searches. I can't confirm or deny what you have been told. Endo is no longer listed as a manufacturer at the FDA sight but the Endo site says they still make it. There could be bottlles wharehoused and distrubeted by wholesalers across the US even though a manufacturer no longer makes the product. I also checked the watson web site and they don't have LA oxy listed as one of their generic products??
Sorry I couldn't be much help.
Good luck, Dave

I certainly don't claim to have near the expertise of Dave.
I do know that I picked up my script of 180 Endo on Wednesday from my local Target where I get all my meds.
Last month it was Watson....

Hi there,
I got my prescription filled for generic Oxycontin (Oxycodone) at Sam's Club yesterday, and it was the Endo version....
I talked with my pharmacist a month or so ago when these posts started coming out about the lawsuit, who is the head one there....i am in Northern Virginia and it's a very populated one....and he has not heard nor recieved any literature on the discontinuing the Endo or other generic versions....
I have only recieved the Endo version of Oxycontin and then my generic Percocet is from the Watson pharmaceuticals company...
Keep in mind that with lawsuits....sometimes it takes years for the judgments to actually be upheld with lots of appeals as well and like Shore said, there could be warehouse's across the US, etc. that have the generic brand stored up...
So...I wouldn't worry too much about it....You said you get the brand name, right? I am suprised that your insurance/workman's comp decided to pay out for that instead of the generics.....Mine always wants me to use generic, but it's not a workers comp thing so dont' have any experience with that...just curious..:)....I think there will always be a version of the generic Oxy out there since it costs the insurance compaines so much less...
Blessings,
Ingrid

I just had mine filled at CVS and it is from Endo Labs. What I found interesting in another forum is the ingredients in these generic brands. Some people argue until the cows come home that there is no difference. Well, I for one say there is and this post backed it up. In a nutshell it said there can only be + or- 20% difference on the ingredients. Some say thats just the filler ingredients not the active ingredients. well this post explained that the active ingredients can be different so long as they affect your body the same way. I think this should be illiegel. I used to be on percocet 10/325 and the only one that compared to the pain relief I got from brand was Endocet. the ones from watson and other manufactures were very diiferent in the strength. This should not be legal. I will try and hunt this post and copy it as it had a link to some very intersesting info. As far as the Oxycontin this is my first time being prescribed it so I cannot compare it. Best of luck! Mudbone..:dizzy:

My hubby and I have had the opposite happen....we used to get the Endo generic and now get Watson.
Didn't someone say that the Watson was made by Purdue so it should be the same as the name brand?
Just my 2cents.~Mush

Hi! I'm also on oxycontin 80mg tid. and i'm on comp. My doc. writes DAW[dispence as written] and have no problem getting them filled[brand name]
I did hear that there discontinuing all generic oxycontin, but i don't know how reliable the source is.

Question for - madhatter-Your docs wries DAW, I underststand the meaning of this and would like to be able to get brand myself. Do you have insurance that pays? I have a certain ins that pays on 3 different tiers
1-Brand if you choose, then you pay cost
2-second "prefered" pay only 20 bucks
3 Generic pay only 10 bucks. My question is if I get my doc to write DAW or brand medically nessaecary I wonder if they will charge me the full price since its not me requesting it. Anybody have any input? I am a beleiver that brand is better than some generics. It would be nice to be able to get them at even the preferred cost (Tier2). I gues this is a question for my ins company but maybe someone has gone through this. Thanks..

Hi.I'm on compansation. I've been on oxycontin for 4 yrs, even before they came out with generic.I remember when i got a script filled,it was filled generic.I didn't think nothing of it,until i took them. They didn't have the same effect dealing with my pain, also,i was getting headachs, upset stomach.I told my doc. and she said many of her patients were complaining of the same thing. So she started writing D.A.W for my scripts, and i had no problem at all.But if i did,my doc. would of wrote a note or specifying why i had to have brand name over generic.Your insurance should cover what your doc. Myself,if i could take the generic,i would, hey,if it helps with the pain,i personally don't care what brand it is.
Some insurance c.o will question why you can't take generic. If you have a reason, and your doc. backs you up,they will fill it.Theres not that big of a price diff. believe it or not.Have you noticed a difference in the two? If so,tell your doc. the next visit, and have your doc. write a little note explaining why you have to have brand name, when the pharmacist goes to fill it,if theres a problem[hey, there may not be]he [she] will call your carrier, and explain that he has your doc. orders stating why you can't take generic.Theres many people out there that complained about the generic. Its got a lot to do with the fillers in them.I hope i was some help to you.And please, let me know how you make out.MAD.

I talked with ins company today and the only way they will do the "DAW" is for the DR to call in and explain a legitimate reason for it. They have a speacial form the can be done via telephone by my doc. But this sounds like a pain in the a$$, and doubt he would do this for me. Thanks anyway..
hastrix 03-23-2007, 07:49 AM
It wouldn't hurt to try,and once your doc. does it,you'll never have to explain again, its really no big deal.If you were getting better relief from brand name, then go for it.Plus,I'm sure your doc. has heard all the complaints from different patients about generic.
