Hi,

I've had Adult Onset Asthma now 2 years this june/july.

I was wondering when having an asthma attack is it normal to also have chest pain, which goes to your back & left shoulder pain as well. I also have reflux too.

I don't get this all the time the last 2 or 3 asthma attacks I've had it very scary didn't last for very long.

Has anyone else had this problem. Any feedback would be great.

Regards

Prior to being diagnosed with asthma, I had pain emanating from my back and a very sharp pain in my left shoulder on one occasion last June. I was also sweating and short of breath. It lasted for about 2-3 minutes. It was very intense while it lasted so I went to the nurse's office at work.
She sent me immediately to the ER.
There they thought I might be having a heart attack and I wound up in the intensive care unit. I had to stay there until I passed the treadmill test the next day. It turns out that my heart was OK.
I was wondering what could have caused this but, after seeing your post, maybe it was asthma.
However if I ever do experience this pain again I will still go to the ER because the symptoms for a heart attack do include this.

What medications are you taking? Could be a side effect.

At the time I had not yet been diagnosed with asthma. I was only(?) taking Altace and Labetalol for BP and Simvastatin for cholesterol.

Since being diagnosed with asthma in October I also take Advair 500/50, Singulair and Albuterol HFA. Makes me long for the good ol' days.
