View Full Version : Can a + hcv antibody test mean hep c in the future?

My internist told me that my ELISA antibody test was either a false positive or I was one of the lucky 15% to 20% of the people that cleared the virus on my own (my PCR test came back negative for hcv). I asked if I did happen to clear it could I ever get hep c and she said no, I couldn't. I feel like I have read something different and she won't refer me to a hepatologist (I'm switching docs, btw. Not because she won't refer me, but her bedside manner is atrocious). Can anybody tell me if it's possible? We are retesting using the RIBA and I will be retested with the PCR in 6 months. I'm just wondering if I should just wait it out or go see a hepatologist. The doc also told me that my liver looked fatty, but that was pretty normal if you are a little overweight. Thanks!

I'm not sure if this answers your question or not.
My doctor told me that even though I cleared the virus I could be re-infected at any time. She told me she has treated people who have been re-infected. I'm not sure if these were people who cleared the virus on their own or from treatment.
