I have had IBS for a couple of years, malabsorption is a new issue for me in the last 2 months, I was wondering if it can be an issue related to IBS? Or whether IBS may have been the wrong diagnosis and there may be something they didn't pick up that is worsening?

kate,

If the IBS is mostly diarrhea type -- it sure can cause malabsorption problems.

The vital nutrients just don't stay in your small intestines long enough to be properly digested and absorbed.

But malabsorption is not a symptom of IBS --- a result in some cases.

Have you ever been tested for Celiac Disease? I was misdiagnosed as having IBS for about 7-8 years before they finally correctly diagnosed me with Celiac. Malabsorption is one of the problems that Celiac Disease can cause.
