'ello!

I was wondering if anyone knew of any really good products or tools for completely de-gunking your pores. I don't have black heads by any means but I can see that they are clogged. Especially when light hits your face I can see the unevenness... especially on my nose.

Origins makes a great mask called "Clear Improvement." It draws everything out of your pores. It's a great product. Costs about $12.00 but lasts a long time.

Where can Origins be purchased?

Some of the major malls have Origin stores. You might also check online and see if they have a store.

Another way to unclog pores is to use a small amount of jojoba oil and massage around the nose, chin or other areas where pores are congested. I have very oily skin, prone to blackheads and breakouts but ever since I started using jojoba oil as a first step in my nightly cleansing, I've noticed fewer clogged pores and blackheads. Jojoba oil closely resembles human sebum, so it actually dissolves oils that accumulate in your skin. It's also gentle enough to remove makeup as well, so I use it as soon as I come home from work to remove my makeup [and mascara!], then I massage it around my nose, rinse off with warm water and follow up with my standard cleanser.

Hope this helps and good luck to you!

So...even if you dont use the jojoba oil as a moisturizer but as a pre-cleanser, it still helps with blackheads and clogged pores? I tried it as a moisturizere before but it broke me out. But Im still dealing with extremelly gunky pores. How long to you have to massage it before you wash it for it to be effective?

I would also like to know more about how exctly you incorporate the jojoba oil in your routine?

Thanks,

It seems counter-intuitive to use oil on oily skin, but I've used this routine for the last couple of months with great results. You can find a lot more details by searching for the term OCM, or Oil Cleansing Method. It doesn't work for everyone, but it has worked for me. Some advocates insist that you have to spend at least 4-5 minutes massaging jojoba oil to get the greatest benefits from OCM, but at least for me, 30-60 seconds seems to be enough.

If you break out using jojoba oil as a moisturizer, this may not be for you. Or you can try mixing up 1 part jojoba oil to 3 parts castor oil for cleansing.

evening routine -

1. Wet face with tepid water
2. Apply a quarter size amount of jojoba oil in the palm of my left hand - dip my right fingers in the supply, pat the oil over my eyes, t zone, then forehead, checks and neck.
3. Massage the oil all over my face, gently around the eyes to remove makeup
4. Splash with the warmest water I can tolerate and massage some more. ( I've even heard of some using steam to open up the pores, but I'm not so sure I WANT to open up my pores, they're already quite large and I'm not convinced they really will shrink back to size.) - I focus around the t-zone especially the nose. This is where some ladies spend 5 minutes, but I usually only do this for 60 seconds at the most. :dizzy:
5. Another rinse off with warm water, then I use my standard cleanser [Murad Clarifying cleanser contains salicylic acid I like] - the cleanser will remove all traces of oil from my face. I don't use this around my eyes and neck

Variation on step 5. If you have dryer skin, you can use a clean washcloth to remove all traces of oil , no extra cleaning step is required.

What benefits have you noticed since you started using jojoba oil vs when you did not use it? Can you really tell a different in your pores and/or complextion?

Jojoba is one of those "wonder oils" loaded with all kinds of nutrients. If you can use it, I would. Unfortunately, in my case, my skin reacts very badly to it and it breaks me out, almost like an allergic reaction.

About how much does the jojoba oil cost? My pores seem to get clogged easily even if there aren't blackheads. I end up squeezing them out and I'm sure that isn't the best thing to do.. but if I don't, I will end up getting more pimples or blackheads!

I just the JASON brand, and it's $7.99 for a 1oz bottle. It lasts for a long time though so I guess it's not that expensive. I only use it as a moisturizer occasionally. I haven't noticed a great improvement in my skin since I started using it. It's not a miracle product but it's a good moisturizer since my skin absorbs it so quickly and it's not greasy at all.

Since I've started using jojoba oil as a first step in my nightly cleansing routine, blackheads around the nose have virtually disappeared. Unfortunately I haven't noticed any minimization of my pores that some have claimed. For those few tough blackheads that seem embedded, jojoba oil softens them enough that I can use an extraction tool to remove them without damage.

As a makeup remover, it's gentle enough to use around the eyes. The only caveat is since I DON'T use waterproof mascara, I don't know how well it'll remove it but it works perfectly fine removing my non-waterproof mascara. I would assume it should be able to remove waterproof mascara but don't know for sure. Hopefully someone else can chime in on this :)

Even better, jojoba oil is good to my wallet$$$! I purchase a 4 oz. bottle at Trader Joe's for about $7 USD. I go through about 1 bottle per month, since I use it in my hair, around my nails, etc.

It's wonderful for those who can use it!

Day, I have the unfortunate combination of oily skin and curly dry hair  While jojoba oil controls oil and melts blackheads on the face, I use massage a quarter size amount in my hair as soon as I get out of the shower. This in addition to leave-in conditioner, curling balm and curl defining mousse keeps hair soft, curls curly and frizzies at bay - of course, on a rainy ultra humid day, nothing seems to help with frizzes

Thanks. My hair is curly/wavy/does whatever it wants to whenever it wants to. I think my scalp is dry and have switcched to washnig it with conditioner only (sometimes shampoo). I have tried jojoba before and made it way too greasy.

HOw exactly do you massage it?
Can you recommend leave-in conditioner, curling balm and curl defining mousse that keeps hair soft, curls curly?

Thank you so much.

I got mine at Trader Joe's. You can get it at any health store though, or even a place like GNC or The Vitamin Shoppe.

Hi Day, sorry for the delay but I don't do internet on weekends :) - My hair is very dry, so if yours tends to run oily, my routine may not work for you.

I use Suddz FX line - it's sulfate free and works great! Check the thread re: sulfate shampoos for details about this line.

I shampoo my hair every other day and apply conditioner every day while I'm in the shower. I have a big comb with big teeth I use to comb conditioner through my hair as soon as I hop in the shower. Afterwards, I'll run a dime size amount of Suddzz Moxee or Aquafix through my hair as a leave in conditioner. Then I apply about a quarter size amount of jojoba oil and comb that through. This is the last time a comb touches my hair for the day! :)

At this point I wrap it up in a turban while I complete my skincare routine and apply my makeup. The towel not only absorbs excess moisture, but I figure the heat helps the oil to penetrate.

Just before I head out the door, I spritz on Sea Plasma spray [Focus 21], by Richard Ravid, Inc. This is a humectant that attracts moisture from the air. Of course, that same moisture can also contribute to frizzes, so I also apply a quarter size amount of Curling Balm by KMS and scrunch it so I don't pull out any of the curls.

Isn't freedom from a blow dryer and curling iron wonderful? :)

An egg white mask works great for de-gunking. I use it every night and my skin has greatly improved. I also squirt a little lemon juice in there to help scars fade. Do it every night for a week and tell me if that doesn't help.
