OK, but you have to promise not to laugh! My husband has very sensitive skin and breaks out if he even looks at lotions, creams, lip balm. For the love of god I had to marry the only man on the planet who breaks out if I use chap stick. Anyway knowing that there would be no help from him I was on a ***** to figure out how to get lotion on my back all by my little ole self. "Platic wrap". Yep, I take a sheet of plastic wrap long enough to hold like a towel when drying my back off. Lay it down on the bathroom counter and apply the lotion in the middle and use it just like I was drying my back off. It works great, now if I could only figure out how to patent it!:D

Yeah sounds weird but hey if it works! Does it get it all blended and evenly distributed? Did you ever try those back lotion applicator wands that are about the size of a back scratcher and have an applicator?

This is a good question.....this may sound wierd but i put lotion on the back of my hand, place my hand behind my back and then rub it on my back. I rub until it soaks in. Once I get it on I turn my hand over and spread it around everywhere else I can reach. You have to be a little limber to do this, but it has always worked for me. Living alone for 2 years with very dry skin makes you figure out how to do things for yourself! :) Good Luck!
