What are your favorite homemade beauty products? Do you like to make your own lotions, creams, lip products? Lets start a list of them all. I will start!

Pore strips. For getting rid of all the gunk our pores hold onto.
1 tablespoon unflavored gelatin.
1 and a half tablespoons of milk.
Mix well, heat in microwave for 10 to 15 seconds until bubbly. Cool slightly and apply in thin strips to area. Let dry and peel off.

Wow that sounds neat. Do they work well? U was actually thinking of trying to make my own peel off mas but more natural than those store bougt ones, but didnt know what ingredient to make it a "peel off" mask. Is gelatin the ingredient that will make it peel off? Or have you ever made one before?

I like doing the honey mask. It supposed to be hydrating and its antibacterial so I think its helping my acne. Also, powdered milk can be a good cleanser for your face, also for the bath. Its got lactic acid which is an aha.

I like to make this body scrub. :)

Take a small container (Move Over Butter containers are perfect) and fill it with sugar. (Brown works better because it's moister) Add in some cocoa powder and shake, then add a TEENSY bit of water to hold it together. It sloughs off the dead skin to make you feel soft and smooth, is super cheap, and smells chocolatey.

I don't know if gelatin is the ingrediaent that makes it peel off or not, I picked the recipe up one day when I was doing a search and thought I would try it. Works as well as the store bought kind and I know what I am putting on my face. I also do the honey mask and love it. Have not tried powdered milk but I may do so yet. I have used whole milk for my bath. Fill tub with the hottest water you can stand, add three cups of epsom salts, two cups of baking soda, a gallon of whole milk and a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Soak for as long as you want. My skin feels like silk when I am done. The ultimate luxury bath.

Wow, I must try this soon. It sounds yummy! Do you think that adding olive oil instead of water would work? Scrub and moisturize at the same time!;)

I use sugar for my facial scrub and it works very well. The finer the sugar, the better. I also use olive oil in my bath water occasionally, as well as I use it only face now and then.

Nothing better than olive oil!

I take about 4 tablespoons of fine corn meal and mix in a little water and some shower gel. You can even add a little olive oil for some extra moisturizing and I don't need lotion afterwards if I add it. Then I get in the tub and slightly dampen myself all over. Then scrub every part of my body with the corn meal mixture using enough pressure to really exfoliate but not irritate my skin. And then rinse. It's so refreshing and makes my skin look shiny and rosy and glowing. Maybe it's the removal of the dead skin and some vitamins in the corn meal, too.

I'm bad about doing it often but if I would just do it once a week I think it would really show.

I make my own after shower body and hair oil by mixing up 1 part jojoba oil, 2 parts avocado oil and 2 parts apricot kernel oil. Add a few drops of essential oil of whatever I have on hand [currently I have lavendar and bay leaf oils]. I use about a quarter size amount on my hair after the shower and massage into the rest while my skin's still damp. By the time my makeup is on and I'm ready to dress, it's soaked in and non-greasy.

I also make my own nail oil by combining squalane [from olives], avocado and camellia oil in equal amounts in a clean bottle that used to contain Nailtiques nail oil.

Everyone thank you for all of your great ideas. This IS fun.
Biorebaby, I love your cocoa scrub. Who knew that you could get your skin silky smooth and smell so great for so little money? Although I will have to say my poor dog is confused as to why I smell so good.
I went to work yesterday at three as usual and ended up working a double shift. On top of that I worked my homecare job 7am to 2:30pm before I went, so I was extra tired this morning when I got home but not ready to sleep.:dizzy:
Dapple I made up some of your corn meal scrub (hope it is ok to name it). Claud1951 I got a little sugar to scrub my face with, not sure if I should use the corn meal scrub on my face. I made my luxury bath and just pampered myself. My skin felt so good all over and I slept like the dead, which is probably why I am up at one in the morning. Athena123 I look forward to trying your body and hair oil, the only essential oil I have right now is lemon grass but I love it so I may have to mix some up tommorow.
Keep them coming everyone. I know that I am enjoying this very much!:D

Well I tried out the homemade pore strip! I think I needed to exfoliate first, and also make sure itwas completely dry. I was watching in a magnification mirror as I was pulling it off, and I did see a lot of gunk pull out but then some of it only got half way out. I was just as painful to pull off as those strips ill tell you that! I think it didnt pull some of it out because of the dead skin I still had, so ill try it again sometime. On the other hand I did find another similar and easier sounding way, elmers glue. I tested it on my hand and it pulled of the same way, so well see how that goes. One bad think I didnt like about the gelatin and milk is that it stinks and you have to apply it quickly and cant rub it around to much or it will roll up in clump and therefore not get onto your skin properly, also the unused product dried up quickly so you have to use it right away...

I am sorry that you did not like the pore strips.:( I did not notice that it stinks but then everyone has a different sense of smell. I would not exfoliate first however, that may be to harsh on your skin. Yes you must use it all very quickly and yes it must be totally dry. I did not say that it would be painless, I just said that it works.;) Again I am sorry that it did not work for you.

Cross, I do appretiate the tip you gave, it wont be the same for everyone. It is a very good tip. Ive never been able to get the real biore strips to work for me anyways, but for the people that it does work for it will Im sure be a great thing. I just wanted to warn that they'd have to use it up right away, when its still warm. It might stink because of the milk Im thinking. I dont think I will do it again though because I have acne prone skin and although it does pull off just as the biore strips (which means its a good thing Im sure) I think I shouldve avoided it on my chin area, because Im broken out now. If I did it again I will only do my nose area. I tried the glue only on my nose but dont think it worked as well, because at least with the gelatin I could see the gunk coming out. I guess it depends on your skin type, also I heard another variation with citrus juice vs milk.

Peel off. You can see your black heads and all the other gunk come off..its crazy I didnt believe it when i heard about it but tried it..its great!

Oh, I was so pleased when I logged in to see that there were more posts. Last Fri. night I was goofing off on the computer and I heard this popping sound and then this fizzing sound, had no idea what it was until I was knocked off line and only then did I notice that my DSL modem was smoking. And I do not mean that it was having a cigarette!:D The technician just left so I had to check out this site to see if there were anymore posts. This is great and such fun.

I have a new one for you. Actually it is old. My grammy made this for very dry or chapped skin. Put one cup of Crisco into a bowl, Open 6 vitamin E capsules and add the oil to the Crisco stir and put into any old jar. My grammy used old Vicks jars. I add a couple drops of whatever essential oil I have on hand. This is good for any kind of dry skin. I use it at the end of the day to remove my makeup. I had my doctor ask me why my hand were still so soft and I told him. He said that in med school thay learned about Cream C but it is just plain Crisco. So anyway I am back and will talk to you soon.

Me, too. The glue didn't to anything.
I tried the gelatin/milk thing. But will try again as I'm bad with following directions!! I mixed the gelatin with the milk and then tried putting it on my face! It was like thick, cold cream of wheat. I had balls of that stuff everywhere. What did dry was murder to get off! I had to use a warm cloth and soak the gelatin off my face. Should have seen the look my husband gave me as I was wearing this stuff!
I'll try it again and let you all know how it turns out by following the directions!

OLIVE OIL :) I tried these for the first time last night and they are great!!

Massage some olive oil through dry hair then wrap your hair in a towel and leave in for 20 minutes then shampoo and condition. :) You can also use a shower cap. Makes hair silky, shiny, and light.

Massage a bit of olive oil into your face and then rinse with cool water. It makes your face soft and glow-y.

You will love this one!

*5 tablespoons of pure cocoa powder
*3.5 tablespoons of pure honey
*Approx. 2 tablespoons of cream--until creamy consistancy (heavy kind if possible)
*3 teaspoons of oatmeal oats.

I use these measurments because I like a nice thick mask, I find thicker works better!!

Combine all these ingredients together in a small bowl. Stir until it becomes creamy & thick. If it's too watery, use less cream next time. Once mixed, apply to the face and/or body and gently massage it in for about 60 seconds, this will activate the exfoliation process. Then let it sit for about 20 minutes, then rinse with warm water.

Not for eating, lol, however it would probably taste pretty good.

It leaves your skin heavenly soft, and the cocoa is an excellent antioxidant
so it protects your skin from free radicals. I do mine 1-2 times per week. It's good for all skin types.

I do love this one. I have soft skin anyway from all of the homemade recipes but this is awesome. I did not like that I had to hibernate in the bathroom for 20 minutes however since my dog wanted to lick it off of me. He weighs almost as much as I do. I did notice however that my husband woke me up a couple of times stroking my arm and back. He said that it woke him up to, he said that my skin has never felt so soft. This one is a keeper!:D

I got home at 9:00 tonight so I just wanted to take a fairly quick shower (I ended up staying in the bathroom for 45 minutes though- HA! lol!!) but I am DEFINATELY trying that tomorrow night!! It sounds FABULOUS! :)

Last night i put in a cup of olive oil and 3 cups of Epson salt into my bath...made me silkier and the epson salt soothed my muscles...my neck had really been hurting like I had pulled a muscle and after a nice long soak I had no pain at all! It was very relaxing too of course, you all should try it. :) JUST DON'T GET THE OLIVE OIL IN YOUR HAIR UNLESS YOU'RE GOING TO SHAMPOO RIGHT AFTER!! When I woke up this morning my hair was a greasy mess so I had to wash it, don't ever just leave it in your hair! LOL

This isn't another 'recipe', just a little tip for body scrubs. Before you rinse them off, rub them around on your skin with a wash cloth to REALLY slough the dead skin off. It can be a little rough though so be gentle if it is!

I love to use olive oil on my face!! I have a bit mixed in with my Avon Nurtura cream and I use it on my face every night. Makes it soft and gives a healthy glow, plus it makes my skin tone look more even. Tonight I massaged some on before cleansing in the shower and the steam really helped, my face feels extra soft! :) I'm in middle school (not exactly a great-skin age LOL) and my skin is normal-to-oily and it never breaks me out, so this tip would probably work for most people unless they have really oily skin.

 hiya all I just had to bring this back! I stumbled onto this thread and took the time to read it..I am very into new recipes (food) and cooking from scratch soooo I guess this is about homemade stuff it peaked my intrest..Now my point..I wanted to say thank you all for posting your recipe's I copied them all. went shopping and purchased most everthing I needed..almost some of the stuff the herb shop didnt have and walmart didnt have. but, what I have tried worked and it was fun cooking it up..LOL
the gelitin sp? worked great for me ! eazy to make and pealed off like the poster said it would. I do now sport a small knot zit but it dont hurt so that told me for sure it was doing some sucking!! ..I never get zits but, I do sport a few black head here and there. Then there is my husband (bless his heart) said it set his face on fire! he wanted to peal it off before it dried but left it on until it did dry before pealing it off..hehe..relax, he said his face felt nice and clean and soft afterwords his face was a little pink tho. :D

The body scrub with corn meal and shower jel uhmmmm nice..made one with my smell good shower gel..hubby looked at mine and smelt it (he had that deer in a headlight look about him) said it was to girly for him so's I made one for him with his shower gel IT was even Blue when I got it all mixed up! who knew? anyway, it made him all manly~man smelly and soft!

The cocoa, brown sugar and olive oil worked great! I dont have a bathtub just a shower..I have to admit it looked like a #$%@ storm hit the shower stall.. here is what I did..I got in shower water running washed hair first, pinned hair up..washed unmentionables with normal soap and water..then turned water off while I was good and wet I applied the mixture scrub..to my suprise the sugar lasted just long enough to scrub before it melted away..I just didnt think about that part of it before hand but it was a nice thing to happen :D a warning to the wise tho...if you have a shower curtain STEER CLEAR!! it stucked to me like a booger! anyways once I peeled it off me , the curtain and the shower stall was covered in the cocoa scrub (well the scrub melted)
I felt all chocolaty and oily but I smelled good..I turned the water back on and rinsed off...oh my!! I would do it all again! my hubby wanted me to try it first and let him know if it worked before he tried it..how nice of him right? he will get to try it tonight..:jester:

I was saving the one where you use the honey and oat meal for last..that will be this weekend! that way I will be able to recruit the hubby again or I will save this one for myself! and let him give me his HONEST openion later!

Thanks again  all!!

Sorry that it has been so long since I gave you all a new recipe!:p I have been having some health problems and have been very busy with that. Anyway enough about me here is a great face mask for you all to try.

Cut a small cucumber into small pieces skin and all. Place into your blender or food processor and puree. Add 8 oz. of plain yogurt and blend well. Chill in the refrig until cool. Apply to the face, neck and chest. Leave on for 10 minutes and rinse with cool water. This mask is ultra gentle and is very calming to the face. Great to use if you are red from other beauty treatments or even from to much sun. You can even save a couple of cucumber slices to put on your eyes as you relax for the ten minutes.

Wow.. I tried quite a few of these tips tonight and oh my god my face and body and everything else.. are so sofr! These are really great things to try when you've had a tiring day!

And as for the dark circles, this is what i found-

Grated potatoes can lighten under-eye circles. Potatoes contain an enzyme called catecholase, which is used in cosmetics as a human skin lightener.

Run one spud through your food processor/blender and stuff the raw mash into a piece of cheesecloth.
Apply to the area directly beneath your eye — don't let the potato juice come in contact with the eye itself — and leave for 15 to 20 minutes.

Hope that helps :)

Here is a great body cream that my mother makes.

Take 1 bottle of Johnson's Baby Lotion, 1 jar of Vitamin E Cream and 1 jar of Vaseline and mix them together. You will have to use your hands to really get in and mix everthing toether. This is great for rough elbows or rough feet. I slather it on my feet and put a pair of socks on. My feet are so soft. I love it on my legs and arms too.

Remember the Satin Hands thing from Mary Kay? I love the stuff but I'm on a 'sugar scrub' budget. I tried this combo on my BF's very scaly feet (now that's love, people).

I slathered Vaseline on then took a handful of sugar and mixed it with water and shower gel (yes, mine, lord he needed it) then rinsed it off and put some thick cream on and whoa, what a difference. I then did this on my hands and loved it, it was just like Satin Hands.

Great Refreshing Skin Hydrator.

Get a spray bottle and fill it with distilled water, or your favorite bottled water. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil. You will now have a homemade atomizer to spray on your face through out the day to refresh your makeup, and put that natural glow back in your face. These facial sprays are expensive in the stores and yet so easy to make. You could even add a teaspoon of olive or jojoba oil for a sealing moisturizer. I absolutely love this preparation and it smells wonderful and wakes you up, your skin and mind especially in the afternoons. :)

Let dry and peel off.

will pectin work as well? i think i might try it.

These are really awesome recipes. I really love the refreshening spray idea, I used lavender oil..very nice! And the cocoa/oatmeal mask was heaven..made me soo soft. I am going to try the pore strips next (can't wait)!

Here is my fabulous home-made strawberry lipgloss:

1 red good-sized strawberry
1/2 tablespoon water
2 teaspoons vaseline
1/8 teaspoon honey
1/8 teaspoon shortening (crisco works)

Mash the strawberry in a small container and add the water (I use a fork), put this and the rest of the ingredients in a dish without the lid (microwave safe). Set on high but keep a look out, mix the contents again and microwave until fully melted. Pour it all into a little bottle or tiny lipgloss container, put it in the freezer and check back about 10-15 minutes. Take out when it's solid, then use it.

It gives a nice shade to the lips! I guess you could do this with virtually any fruit you like.

I absolutely love this one, but every single time i've used it we have had NO cream, or had just used the cream that night. Pretty unlucky hey? But of course, i thought 'Hmm...something thats like cream' and immediately though moisturiser.

It was heavenly. I definately reccomend if you are short on cream to use mosturiser instead (but make sure its a face mosturiser, because when i used my particular body moisturiser, it made my face a little dry... but that might just be the type of mosturiser it was :D )

Cold sores - god, are they ever annoying!! About 3 months ago I had my first cold sore. I used abreva and Lysine and it went away in a little over a week. Anyways, about a week after it cleared up, I was helping my boyfriend clean his apartment, and he was in charge of the floors (mopping).

To make a long story short - Mr. Clean, liquid form, if you read the back of it, it states that it kills the Herpes Simplex Virus -1 (the kind that causes cold sores). Anyways, about two weeks ago, when I woke up, I felt one coming on. A little teenie tiny blister, and the tingling was there. I immediately took an empty pill bottle put about 1-2 cm of Mr. Clean in it and filed the rest with water. With a q-tip, I dabbed this mixture on the spot for about 20 seconds, repeating every few minutes. When I was at work, I used Abreva but noticed that the bump was getting smaller and smaller. Anyways, the cold sore never errupted, and it was totally gone the very next day! No word of a lie!

I mean, no one looks nice with a cold sore, haha. But make sure that you use a very diluted solution of it!!!

I tried this last night and it was awesome!! I used it on my face, hands, and legs. I have a $55 microdermabrasion kit and this was better! Just be sure to rub gently on your face. I also tried the glue for the nose strip and it worked great too. My only advice is to make sure you use enough glue and then let it dry completely before peeling off in a quick, fluid motion. Thanks so much to everyone who has posted thus far. I can't wait to try out some other "recipes"!

I have no recipes to share because I tend to be one of those lazy people who just tries a product already on the market, but I LOVE reading about these awesome recipes! I do have a question about the olive oil. Will it work if I have oily skin and hair, or will it cause a bigger problem for me? I am in my 40s, but everything is still really oily.

Thanks!

Cool post idea. Wow the pore strips are awesome. I loved the cocoa honey mask too! I have a little something to share.

For whiter, cleaner teeth I use some plain soap mixed with a dash of baking soda. It gives a cleaner feeling and I read that plain soap is healthier for the gums than toothpaste is.

This is my recipe for a brighter complexion. Use one whole kiwi, a handful of almonds. Blend these together until it's mixed well. It should be pastey, if it's too thick add a touch of water. Apply to clean skin and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. When the time is up just gently massage in a circular motion on the face for 15 sceonds then rise it off. Doing this every week for a month has made my complexion brighter and a spot has faded I had on my cheek. Follow with your moisturizer afterwords.

Thank you all so much for posting these great homeade recipes. I used to always think about things to conjuer up and make myself, but was too lazy or just forgot about it. One simple effective thing i do for my face, which is acne prone, is wash with only baking soda. Take about 1 TBLS and put a few drops of warm water in the palm of your hand and make a little paste and rub it gently all over your face. Then rinse with lukewarm water. My face comes out squeaky clean-- makeup and all. And it feels really nice afterwards and helps with my break-outs-- Ill think of some more stuff and I am going to do some experimenting of my own! Lets keep this thread going!

Room for one more?

I didn't actually try this at home wax recipe but I was searching for something and came across this one. Let me know if any one tries it :)

1 cup sugar
2 Tbl. lemon juice
2 Tbl. water.

Mix in a saucepan and boil for 8-15 minutes, or until 250 degrees (soft ball stage). Then pour it into a little Rubbermaid container and leave it to cool down a bit.
Keep refrigerated. It can be heated up in the microwave...but be careful not to get it too hot and burn yourself. Also, don't do this if you're not familiar with how to wax, haven't done it before, etc...

The only thing is, what can I use for wax strips?

I have tried that one, except you add honey as well... it works better that way. You have to measure percisely otherwise it will either be too runny or too sugary.

As for the strips, it's best to use cloth... like cut up an old tshirt or something. That works just fine, plus you can wash and reuse them.
