Hi All!! I am burping to beat the band today, having the usual pressure in my chest and burning in my throat. I then get the pain in my shoulder, neck, face (jaw and sinus area) and about half way down the top of my arm. I think that I have things under control and then it starts again. I know that I have had my heart checked out, but gosh darn days like today make me crazy.
Can anyone out there relate? These symptoms could alone drive into an anxiety attack because I think it is my heart!
Thanks to all!
Crazy

Isn't it amazing what this reflux can do...Part of it may be the anxiety it put us in. You may also be hyperventilating a bit causing you to swallow a lot of air creating gas. That is usually when I get chest pressure like that, and gas can emulate dea hreat attack feeling, it's true. Maybe try a gas x..... I usually have to take a gasx and a klonoping for anxiety when I get like that.
It relieves it enouogh to get through the day.
Good Luck

Crazylife,

You have to tell us more about what meds you are on and how diagnosed. I went for years with symptoms like yours. I thought for sure I was going to die some day from a heart attack. I self treated my acid reflux with over the counter stuff. I did this for YEARS. Finally, I said enough is enough and started to seek medical attention. I was an IDIOT for waiting so long. Now the damage is done and I have Barrett's. The worry I had before about my heart is nothing compared to the worry I have now with my symptoms getting worse and worse. I am not trying to scare you. You need to see a doctor. Maybe it is your heart maybe not. But if your heart checks out okay you need to really change your life and treat your acid reflux. If you have had this for years then have your doctor order and EDG if you haven't had one already, insist on it if this has been a chronic problem.

Actually, everyone no matter what their condition should eat healthy and exercise. Helps for everything.

Yeah thats right.. prevention is better than cure... as for my symtoms mine is mostly on the head.. like a pressure that extends up to the neck, jaw and like suffocating me.. my head feels like its going to burst... can LPR still be the reason? I am really feeling more and more hopeles as day goes by :(

chikkie, I also get head pressure, and it feels as if I'm hanging upside-down and my head will burst from the pressure. Horrid!

I think the worst thing is that in the back of our minds a lot of us fear that it really is a heart problem. Last year when I was struggling with GERD I had my heart checked out and all the tests came back great. That eased my mind and things were much better this past year. I still had some GERD issues but they didn't escalate. I think the anxiety makes the problem much worse. Next week I am traveling overseas for business and my symptoms have come back in force. My chest is aching, I am short of breath and I have heartburn. I can feel that I am extremely stressed out. And of course I am worried about my heart. I don't know how to control the GERD-Anxiety-GERD....it is a vicious cycle.

TLB50..oh my goodness, that is my story exactly. It is a vicious cirlcle! I can't really tell you which came first either. It is a crap shoot as to what is going to trigger me! I am under a huge amount of stress right now (my Father is dying, work, family, blah, blah, blah) and things that I have not had issues with in the past are now raising their ugly heads. I also carry stress in my back and shoulders, I was told the other day that my shoulders felt like concrete..nice huh?? And like I said before, I have had my heart checked out, but how accurate are those tests, especially for women. I have been told to exercise, but the GERD gets aggravated by the jostleing of my stomach, or is it my heart??? I am afraid to eat, and if I don't eat, my stomach can be just as bad as when I eat something wrong. Some days food makes me feel better, some it makes it worse! Am I messed up or what! I still say that stress is the number one factor in GERD...at least for me.
I just want to try and get better...

[QUOTE=CrazyLife414;2874044]I have been told to exercise, but the GERD gets aggravated by the jostleing of my stomach, or is it my heart??? /QUOTE]

That's weird. Even walking some distance irritates my GERD. My stomach can get upset and I have pressure in my chest. I think it is gas pressure because belching relieves it. My Gastro Doc said most gas (belching type) is from swallowed air. Maybe I am stressing out and not breathing correctly when I exercise (or even walk). Funny thing is that I had my annual checkup with the Gastro Doc last week and I was doing great. This week I am stressing out about traveling. I guess a lot of this is anxiety.

TLB..same here! Sometimes I am great, but sometimes even walking kills me! I was also told that like anything else, if you are worried about it then it will be worse, so maybe we are so aware of it that it causes anxiety and then the vicious circle keeps going! Now the big question, how do you not think about it when you never know when it is going to act up?
Do you ever "feel" your heart beating when your having a bad spell? Again, maybe the anxiety adding her 2 cents worth????
Best of luck on your trip overseas!

My husband and I are cnstantly having "discussions" because of this.. he constantly tells me that I worry too much thats why I am stressed out and shoudl stop doing that! But I also constantly tell him that I wouldnt be stressed out like this if I dont feel anything bad! So wer left back where we started from... Is stress causing me tobe sick or me being sick is casuing my stress! Darn but its just really fraustrating!

But do any of you feel like the air you breath in is cold? like even its not really cold I feel like the air going in my nose is cold! I think that is whats causing my LPR rather than the reflux,, I stopped having reflux since I have PPI. But the head pressure, nausea and dizziness and chest pain is still here... sometimes I can even see my eyes throb!

If those other symptoms are there that means your medication isn't working. Can you ask the doctor for samples of other meds? That's what my doc did. He gave me a bunch of stuff to try then asked which one worked the best. I stopped taking my meds months ago and went the natural route. I feel fine now. I take digestive enzymes after every meal, a chlorophyll pill once a day, and now I started taking probiotics a few times a day. I used to have such bad symptoms like pressure in my ears, headaches, etc.

(or i just dont notice it anymore) sorry one mor equestion.. were you also this weak before? like I am so lethargic and cant comprehend thinsg easily... I feel like I can just drop down and sleep and stop breathing! I am honestly about to declare my self bed ridden anytime soon :dizzy:

Yes the doc can give out samples. That's what they usually do. Allergists do this as well so they can see which medication works best.

No I wasn't super lethargic like you but I did feel so bad that all I could do was lay down. My head felt like it was going to explode. Everything used to feel bad. My throat, ears, eyes, and nose. I spent years going through this. I thought I was going crazy because I had seen so many doctors and no one had an answer. Some said it was nothing. Some said they didn't know what it was. My allergist was the one who ended up diagnosing me. Thank God for him. After being on prevacid I immediately felt better. I did that for a while and it worked ok. I'm glad I went the natural route cause I feel better than ever.

My issues sound somewhat similiar..still trying to find out what is going on with me. This is going on 2 months:

I have been having a dull pain about an inch under my left breast which has now spread to about an inch above. The dull pain is not too bad but I do get sharp shooting pains around that area that have been coming and going. I am getting an echo tomorrow to rule out heart issues, and have been told it could also be my digestive track?

Has anyone else experienced similiar issues? This is making me nervous that I have a heart or lung disease! I am only 32 and am very active!

Instead of seeing my GI, I went to see my GP... shes more accomodating to be honest.. specialist tend to be so full of them selves.. sorry but that how I feel.. like just take what they give or leave it... like they really wont spend time to find out or get to know you at all.. and if they cant make you well, they blame all back on you.. anxiety! my foot! I am not anxious when I dont feel anything bad in my body and isnt it their job? to rid us of that bad feeling? so we wont be anxious?? ok sorry kinda vent out again :p

anyways so back to my GP she so good that she set out a treatment plan for me... try and see what med will really work for me (finaly got my samples) and she even make me a diet plan! and suggested that I go see her every end of the week to see the effects of the meds we're trying.. now we are on esomeprazole... just took one so cannot actually say anything yet... will keep you posted which works best for me.. :)
