I'm 11 days post op from an austin bunionectomy and hammer toe correction. I have 3 permenant screws.

I'm not sure if I'd mentioned before, but I have 3 yound children. 2 Five yr olds and a 3 yr old. We were leaving church last night and my oldest girl was jumping around telling me all about what she had done. She was jumping while telling while talking and the next thing I now "WHAM" :dizzy: she jumped on it!!! Square on the newly repaired great toe!!! I instantly hit the ground and started crying! She weighs approx 40 lbs (plus the force of jumping). Is it possible that she re-broke it? It doesn't feel quite like it did prior to her jumping on it. See my bandage had come off the night before while sleeping and I was able to gawk at the FOOT OF FRANKENSTEIN!!! Well I pulled off the bandage once I got home to look at it after the accident and (I hope I was imagining it) it looked concave right under the big toe were as before it looked like a normal foot, swollen, but kinda normal. I really HOPE it's not damaged!!!

What are ya'lls thoughts on this? Is it POSSIBLE?

Have you got unimaginable pain? It is possible, can you strap it up nicely like the doc did, thats all they would do for it anyway. EUUUWWWW!! OUCH!!

  OUCH! I would call the doctor as they might want to take an x-ray. If anything happened to the bones, you wouldn't want them to fuse together incorrectly. J.

I would call the doc and tell him what happened. If he isn't concerned then you know it should be ok. Don't try and fix it yourself! let your doc know. Let us know what he says.

I just got back from the doc and he said that he thought it would be ok. He took the stitches out and re-taped it (TIGHT). He's got my second toe tapped like it's pulling the toe towards the ground - an awkward postion even if you didn't just have surgery. He taped up to big toe even with the rest of my toes. I have to go back 1 time a week for the next 4-6 weeks to have to bandages changed. I was told that I'm not aloud to bandage it on my own only he can do that. Is he using the tape (up to my ankle) as a cast since they can really cast toes?

Anyway THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP!!!! You guys are WONDERFUL!!

Thanks,
Amy

Glad you saw the doctor. He's making sure everything's aligned correctly with all that tape. Hope your 3 year old isn't too traumatized by hurting mom. J.

Amy,
I'm glad everything seems fine. If you hadn't gone you would have spent all your time worried that you had done something really bad to it. this way you know. I've found after about 8 surgeries, that drs. really hate it when you mess with their bandages. So I figure that if it makes them happy to do it, they can. On my last surgery, after 11 days in the hospital, I had a home nurse come in every other day and change the bandages and reset the vac-pac that was sucking my open foot. If the suction broke, I had to call the home nurse up to fix it...no break day or nite. (Glad that is finished.)
