View Full Version : Afraid of Hep. C

I have Herpes. Have had a lot of OB's that I can't seem to shake! I treat with Valtrex. It goes away, but comes right back after discontinuing the meds. I'm not particularly under a lot of stress and I feel healthy. I'm so frustrated that I can't seem to shake this virus.

I'm worried sick about Hep., thinking maybe that is causing the Herpes virus to flare. We moved my herpes meds up to 1 gram once daily to see if that will help. I contracted Herpes from a former boyfriend 20+ yrs. ago. I don't know about Hep. When I was with him (for 2+ yrs.) he did not use IV drugs that I was aware of. I understand transmission isn't common just from sexuality, but what if I were on my period during sex?

Because the Herpes is chronic I'm trying to figure out what could be causing that. Bc this former bf "got around" I'm afraid of what he might have given me.

I have children. All of them are healthy.

A few yrs. ago when I went to the emergency room with a terrible headache, fever, etc. they ran a lot of tests. Would they possible have run something related to my liver function?

Is a Hep. test expensive? What do I tell my doctor, and ask for? Thank you.

I doubt you have hep c. I was exposed to hep c but still hasn't been found in my body... i'm probably one of the lucky few who cleared it naturally.

Why do I doubt you have hep c? It's a bloodborne virus. It requires blood-to-blood contact. Could you have gotten it while having sex? Yes. Is it likely? No. You would have to be on your period and/or have some kind of vaginal tearing/microtrauma during sex, and he would either have to be chaffed enough to bleed/scab or have blood in his semen.

It is very unlikely you have hep c. If you were a drug user yourself or you received a blood transplant or medication derived from human blood at some point, or shared toothbrushes with him or razors, then I'd be more concerned.

Call a hepatologist. Tell him your situation. Tell him you want to be tested for Hep C.

I really hope you turn out negative, my personal opinion is that you will, but you STILL NEED TO GET TESTED.

Out of curiosity, when you're dating at what point in the dating/relationshp do you tell someone you have herpes? I'm curious b/c I'm trying to figure that out about the Hep C thing for myself.

lackey: since you are a guy, it is more easy, if you tell a girl right away, that all she needs to do is get vaccinated against it, and she is good for life, incase your blood comes in contact. She only has a 10% chance of dumping you, and if she did, she is a total loser and you don’t need her. But I say tell them right away, because the shots take 6 months.
