I am waiting for consultants appt in next two weeks and know he will do a colonoscopy. I have had 7 weeks of severe gas, pressure around waist and navel hitting me worse evening and night so preventing sleep and have lost weight. My Dr is convinced its nothing sinister as I have severe spine problem in thorassic area (ribs) and she thinks the nerves to my bowel are being irritated giving me bad IBS BUT she has to send me to consultant to rule out anything nasty.
I have read on here that its best to eat only liquid foods for a few days before you do the prep??? I have low blood sugar problems so will have to keep liquid sugar intake up on the prep days.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

My husband had this done. Try to eat healthy before the day you have to prep. On the day of the prep you will want as much privacy as you can get. My husband just locked himself in out bedroom and lived off the bed and bathroom. He said the prep day was worse than the actual colonoscopy. He was a little sore but by the end of the day he was fine and moving around likehe normally would.

thanks for that - i had a phone call from hospital yesterday asking me to go for sigmoidoscopy on Monday so no prep needed they give you an enema when you get there ( yummy!). the consultant likes to do this test before he sees you as no sedation or prep needed and I assume he then decides if you need any other tests.

I have to go in 3 weeks to have a colonoscopy. I heard that the worst part is the prep. I have IBS.( newly diagnosed) Good luck to you.

The prep wasn't the greatest but I got lucky and got Halflyltey.....it has pills and smaller amount to drink.
The twilight sleep didn't knock me out, but I didn't feel anything except for the forced air, and that just felt like a bad case of cramps. Other than that, felt nothing and it was over quickly.
I did have problems that night though, they had me on two meds and they made me feel like I wanted to throw up in the evening thru the am, but if you drink warm liquids this will calm your stomach down :)
