Hey all...I will be having a post tibial tendon reconstruction and a calcaneal osteotomy surgery on April 24. Was wondering about recovery time, what some of you have experienced...things I should be prepared for...you know all that pre-surgery stuff????!!!!
If any of you could help the calm the jitters, I would be very grateful!

Hi,

I had the surgery 5 weeks ago. The first 4 weeks were kind of rough but with the right pain medication and constant elevation of the foot it helped. For the most part there was not too much I could do because I had alot of swelling. I got the stiches out after 2 weeks and was put back into another cast for another 2 weeks. That cast was too tight and every time I got up the swelling cut off my circulation. I had that cast removed and another one put on. Now I am in a boot cast. I still can't walk. I'm hopping around with a walker. That beats the crutches. I can put the foot down but cannot put much weight on it. The heal and where the screw went in is my biggest problem. I start PT next week. Can't wait to walk again. Ask alot of questions and is something doesn't seem right bring it to their attention. If I would have spoken up on the second cast I would have been completely bed ridden because my foot turned blue everytime I stood up and God knows what damaged I would have done. Good Luck!

I am post op 5 weeks on the Posterior Tibial tendon repair/Osteotomy. Can anyone help with some questions. I am having stiffiness with the incisions. The Dr. did not recommend and special wound care just wash with anti-bacterial soap. I was wondering if anyone is where I am and what are you experiencing?

Thanks,

Hi
You might want to check out what myself and others have posted on the posterior tibial tendon threads. I had surgery on Dec. 6th and am now walking around without the boot as long as possible every day, also continuing to do PT exercises 4 times a day. My incisions feel stiff and numb, especially the one on the outside of my foot. The dr. told me to just massage it with a wet washcloth. I also get stiffness in the front of my ankle. I still have pain in my heel mainly where the screw is. I'm actually happy with the progress I've made with my recovery. Of course I'm not 20 years old anymore, so I don't expect to heal as quickly as someone that age would. I see the dr. again on April 3rd, at which time I expect him to cut me loose.
Blessings
Rita

I am scheduled to have a calcaneal osteotomy the first week of May. My heel is bone on bone with my fibula (wierd). I hope I don't exchange one pain for another.
