View Full Version : Body hair and anorexia

My daughter is 19 and complains that the vellus hair on her back is dark. I have observed it myself and can't see a thing, the hair looks blonde to me. She says that in certain lighting, the hair looks dark, (no one else seems to notice, but her) which I don't understand because I've never paid attention to body hair, so my question is, why is her blonde vellus hair appearing darker at times? She certainly doesn't have alot of it because I cant even feel it, and I've explained to her that terminal hair is coarse and dark and longer than vellus hair. She had an eating disorder a year ago, could the hair actually be lanugo hair? She says she has just noticed it, but it might have been there for awhile. Plus, she naturally has olive skin that used to tan very easily, but since ehr eating disorder, and months of depression due to alot of other psychological problems, her skin went very pale- could the body hair look darker because of her now much lighter skin? Whatever the case, its short, and fine, and I've explained to her that terminal hair is thick, coarse, dark and grows long. Sorry for the complicated question, i am just pulling my hair out because I cant see the hair she's getting distressed about and she's suffered from things like body dysmorphic disorder in the past too, she spends unnecessary amounts of time observing every inch of her body, so I'm thinking the hair might just be something esle she's having a 'freak out' about. Thank you.
