:dizzy: how long should you wait for a 2nd opion after surgery? i had big toe fusion in november and i recieved alot of responses for drs in the chgo area. i know i need a catscan to see if fusion actually took place, which the xray showed, but i am in pain and have a big metal plate in my big toe. my dr told me the metal plate was too big for my toe, but fusion has to take place before it is removed. i just dont know what another dr will tell me and do for me. i am so confused. i know i have to get my medical records and start all over. i want my life back, but i dont know if i am being impatient. any advice? debbie g
Gee debbie...I've been reading your posts and I really feel for you! When is this plate supposed to come out? I don't understand why it's 'too big for your toe.' You say the x-ray shows the fusion took place, does your doctor want the CT scan or you? And, if the fusion did take place, why won't he remove the plate?
Is it that you don't trust your doctor anymore or feel he's brushing you off?
That's what happened with my first doctor. I simply told his office that my office was requesting I get a second opinion (since I wasn't able to return to work) and I would need his surgical/office notes and all my x-rays. I got them and went to my PMD for a referral.
Maybe you should just go to another doctor, tell him/her what's been going on and see what they have to say. If they can help you, they can request your doctor's notes. Couldn't hurt...I know it's hard emotionally to get another opinion but, you're suffering and don't sound pleased with your current doctor...so go for it. You owe it to yourself to at least have peace of mind.
My thoughts are with you. J.
P.S....after I met my second surgeon, he told me I had to wait until six months had passed (from my first surgery) before he would open my foot again. J
