Hi, there. I am really into exercising lately more for overall health and to sweat a lot to keep my skin clear. I have a pretty high metabolism and don't really do it to shed off pounds, but I want to continue with it because it makes me feel better overall, reduces stress, and the sweating helps with my complexion. However, the only way that I really can sweat at the gym is if I run about 30 minutes on high pace on the tread mill. I have heard however that running is bad in general for the back, the knees, and lately I have heard that it's bad for the female organs as well. Is this true? And if so do you guys have any suggestions for other workouts that will help me break a sweat? The bicycles seem to hurt my knees more than the tread mill, and the only eliptical machines we have at the gym are positioned way to high and kill my legs (okay so I'm a little bit of a weenie, lol)
What do you guys suggest? Thanks in advance.

Unless it's a problem for YOU, then there is no reason not to do it.

Treadmill causes me to break into a sweat the quickest. I change my cardio quite a bit, as I get bored. I find as long as I increase the intensity on the othe machines, I can break into a nice sweat.

*Running* is a high impact form of cardio. It *can* be hard on joints based on several factors, such as shoes, form, running surface, intensity, predisposition to joint problems etc. But a treadmill is not inherently bad.
As far as it being bad for women?... never heard that. Sounds ludicrous.

I've run 6 marathons and have been running hills, streets and sidewalks for 15-un, maybe 17 years. I have no knee problems or foot problems. I wear high heels every day and feel great.

I think inactivity is the biggest threat to a woman's health.

I think most women don't work out hard enough. Free weights, just like the guys, and running real roads feels the best for me.

Whatever makes you feel good is the best.
