I have been suffering on and off with depression over the last six years. I am currently taking 225mg of Dosulepin a day since seeing a consultant psychiatrist. I've been on this dose for the last four weeks due to my previous dose having no effect at all.

The problem is for the first time since taking dosulepin I am suffering with a constant headache, dry mouth and very blurred vision. I went to see my doctor who told me to lower the dose, but I'm worried that doing this would put me back at square one so to speak as I worried by depression will worsen. How long do these side effects generally last?

I'm due to have a medication review with the community mental health team in two weeks for a medication review, so should I carry on till then?

Any advice would be useful.

In my opinion I would wait to see the mental doctors as they are much more informed when it comes to antidepressants. A lot of side effects do go away with time. Is it possible to get your review moved up?

take care

Well as usual get in touch with the prescribing doc somehow. The very blurred vision is what would concern me the most...which may be contributing to the heahaches. What's the worst that will happen if you go back to your original dose? You'll be back to where you were before. I wouldn't worry about your depression worsening. I mean....it wasn't getting worse on the lower dose...just wasn't getting better. At least that's what I understood from your post. And it's just for two weeks till you see the review team right?

Once you get that taken care of...you might want to explore some different meds. There are so many out there...that no one shoudl live with bad side effects.

It's a tough call. Sometimes side effects work themselves out. You've gone to see your doc...and even though he isn't the prescribing doc....he probably knows you better than the other. I dunno....like I said...the blurred vision would be killing me. Good luck.
