Hi everyone, my mom is having episodes of severe rectal bleeding (ie the whole toilet bowl is filled with red/maroon colored blood). She has them during bowel movements and in a few instances when she just "relaxes" her bum muscles while on the toilet, blood will come out in a stream. We've been to the ER three times last week and they finally gave her a colonoscopy on the third visit. The result was that she has internal hemorrhoids and they gave her some ointment to place up her bum. But it's been 5 days now and the bleeding is still occuring! Are hemorrhoids suppose to bleed this much? I am quite worried for her health...any advice would help. Thanks!

Make an appointment with a specialist - GI doctor or internal medicine.
A physician needs to rule out other possible diagnoses.
Go with your mom to the appointment.
Ask your mom how long this bleeding has been going on.
If it has been going on for a long time, your mom's blood counts should be checked.
