CoJack 11-14-2002, 02:46 PM k, i just started shaving around my chest and groin area(cream&bic). the couple times i've done it though , i get patches of this weird babyish acne or bumps around the area shaved. what is the best way to treat this. Hydrocortisone maybe?
im intersted in an answer as well. I shaved my chest a while back, but got really bad bumps. It was disgusting really - i refused to take my shirt off for a month. talk about defeating the purpose.

zooropa 11-15-2002, 06:49 PM neosporin works well...i heard this once on howard stern and works well http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
CoJack 11-18-2002, 09:56 PM not convinced. need more input plz!
crcaz 11-19-2002, 03:47 AM I wouldn't use topical steroids long term- it does more harm especially long term. If it is fungus/bacteria caused I would use otc clotrimazole(an anti fungal) w/ a quality aloevera(restores and strengthen skin) cream.
AllisonP 11-20-2002, 12:21 PM Wax... ouch but I don't get bumps! I'm a girl though and can handle the pain. Just kidding..
*shudders* just the thought of xaxing makes me cringe.
no way no how
country bumpkin 11-24-2002, 05:36 PM I find that shaving in horizontal strokes using a new blade and very good shave gel and only after standing in a hot shower for a while before you begin works best for me... but that is on my bikini area. I have tried Bikini Zone and it seems to help some but there is an antiseptic odor that can be self defeated. Don't push too hard either and you just need to keep doing it the skin will get less sensitive with repetition.
silently confident 11-30-2002, 03:16 AM im curious i was thinking about shaving my chest but doesnt shaving make it grow back thicker. i dont want to look like an ape when im older.
Hi , I shave my groin area every day and don't get bumps any more. My secret? After shaving in the shower with ordinary shower gel, dry off gently and put some roll on deodorant on the shaved area. Cheap. effective and easy! The deodorant is best if perfumeless, BTW.

silently confident 12-01-2002, 04:53 PM i might just shave it and if it grows back thicker ill keep shaving it and by the time i stop when im like 50 i wont care anyway.
Why wouldn't you care at the age of 50?

silently confident 12-02-2002, 11:26 PM Ah I dunno because people let their appearance go at sometime in their life. I know my dad is 55 and he couldn't care less if he had a hairy chest he's already married and has kids. At a certain age trivial things such as hair on your chest dont matter anymore..
Guess you're right, could be considered trivial by most older people. However, I think that's changing nowadays. Lots of older people I know are very self-conscious and into looking after their appearance. It takes all sorts, doesn't it? I know I'll always be "vain" though, tee, hee.
Mitchell_46 12-03-2002, 11:33 PM I've been shaving my chest and groin for about 3 months now. The hair grows back fairly quicly. I was pretty hairy to begin with. I just started goign to college and the people down there aren't really concerned with the whole shaving thing. A lot of people shave their chests and a few arms and legs. I don't think I'd shave my legs just yet but I"m afraid too my arms though. What do you all think about shaving legs and arms.
I prefer a guy with hairy legs and arms, unless you have to be hairless for cycling or bodybuilding, etc.. Guys with hair on their limbs are very attractive! Don't shave! It's very masculine and lots of women love the feel of soft male hair. Remember that opposites attract and most women shave, so for us it's attractively different.
cosmic_stance 12-04-2002, 05:40 PM Yeah, but shaving shows more muscle definition if you're a body builder. Try a product called Magic Powder. It's supposed to be good at removing hair.
Frenchie 12-04-2002, 05:58 PM I would also like to suggest either the Mach 3 or the Venus triple blade razor. If I use ANYTHING, and I mean ANYTHING else on my legs they get torn up!
Also try using a product that contains salicylic acid to ward off ingrown hairs. Paula's Choice (available only online) makes good 1% and 2% BHAs. Pure Aloe Vera might be calming and healing as well.
Good Luck! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
Anonymity 12-05-2002, 12:14 AM I'd agree with Nela. My fiance has hair, well, everywhere, and I really like it!
Personally, I feel men who are totally smooth come off as slightly conceited.
That's totally sexist, isn't it?! I expect myself as a woman to be totally smooth, but I believe it's bad for a man to be the same??
I can't help it, though, and through conversations with female friends, I think many (though not all) women might agree with me. Maybe it's an inborn attraction feature in the primordial brain. Or maybe I'm just rambling now.... http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wink.gif
To sum up: don't be too hard on your hair. It may be a better feature than you think.
