Just wondering what the general feeling is between these two? I have tried Effexor but ultimately didnt like it... given this, would it be worth trying Cymbalta... is it considered more effective or less sides than Effexor... ?

The process of trial and error can be long and painful so I thought Id ask as much first.

Thanx

Jason............They both fall into the same SNRI category........I tried both........Effexor had much worse withdrawls for me but also has some from Cymbalta..........it is trial and error to see which works for you..............I know with Cymbalta that you have to decrease it VERY SLowley when you come off and my Dr said it as "adictive" as Heroin...........?

I was on Cymbalta for about 8 months and ended up as an inpatient. My pdoc says he was in the process of changing all his patients off cymbalta because be 6-8 months it just stops working and the you crash and burn. (One hint, if you are going to have a meltdown the parking lot of your therapist office is as good a place to have it as any) He switched me to 225mg of effexor dailey since early Sept and is has been working fine. Just my .02 worth.

Cymbalta affects the reuptake of both serotonin and norepinephrine equally where as effexor affects serotonin much more than norepinephrine, even at the higher doses.
i was on Effexor a couple of years ago and it was ok..i am now on cymbalta 60mg and love it...it started working within 2 weeks and the only side effects are low sex drive and intense dreams..the best antidepressant i have been on, and i have been on a lot
