I am due a sigmoidoscopy tomorrow afternoon and have been told there is no prep needed as I will be given an enema when I arrive at hospital and there is no need for sedation.

I stupidly ******d and came across lots of people saying that it was terribly painful. I can handle quite high levels of pain as I have spinal problems which mean I am in pain all the time but the way some people were going on about it it sounds terrible.

Would like to know if everyone has a terrible time with it then at least I am prepared.

No experiences here with it but do want to wish you well. I am sure we will be down that path as well if they cant find out what is wrong with my husband soon.

Let us know how it goes.

I have had 3 Sigmoids & 3 Colonoscopies...by far the C's were the easiest (minus the prep) but I don't think they were painful (and I am the World's #1 Wusser! :p ) Felt pressure and a slight discomfort when the turn was made at the top of the sigmoid colon area but no tears or anything! Good luck and you'll do fine....quit believing everything you read...it will scare you to death unnecessarily!! :dizzy:

Grehound you were so lucky to only experience discomfort when the sig had to go round the corners - I nearly left the table and I have to say childbirth was less painful!!!!!!! The Dr did manage to do what was in effect half a colonoscopy but without the sedation before I said enough I can't stand the pain. As everything was normal he said they try and go as far as they can until the patient has had enough, maybe I was too brave!!

the nurses said no one ever had a second one without sedation and if I had asked beforehand they would have done it!!

I am glad all was normal and i just have to have abdominal ultrasound to check all my other bits.

the after effect of all that gas they pump into you is not good either and they said could take 2 days to get rid of it all!!

The one intesting thing is that the pressure and discomfort I went to dr with in first place must be wind related as this is what I am experiencing from all the gas they pumped in.

Thankfully I didn't need any biopsies or anything.

Im wondering if my stomach pain is gas too! After my colonoscopy it seems the pain had gotten worse, like there was enough gas inside me then they shoot that air up inside you and makes you feel worse!

I just had a sonogram which was normal, except the tech did find an area of trapped gas where Im having pain, and yesterday I just had a CTscan of my abdomin and pelvis....should be a few days until I find out if anything else is wrong in there.

What types of pain were you having? Mine is lower right abdomen, it isn't severe like a 1-2 on a scale of 1-10, and mine has been with me for 7weeks now.

my pain is in waist to navel area anywhere from left to right and it feels as if someone is poking me from the inside out - not a pain a such just an intense sensation with noisy wind and embarrasing noises!! It really hits me in the evening and then I can't sleep with it as its so uncomfortable.

I have a slight feeling of poking pressure most of the time either side of my waist in exactly same place both sides which is odd when I sit down and it is possible due to back problems that part of this may be muscle tightening.

Good luck with CT results.

I've had this done, they give you nice drugs to relax you and the only thing I found uncomfortable was the gas and the band of my piles.

Good luck
