View Full Version : Induced period?

I am currently on cycle day 37 and I am still awaiting AF. I have had 2 negative hpts and 1 negative blood test. The NP said if I haven't started by Thursday, then they can induce my period. I have never missed a period before in my life, but she said about 1 in every 10 periods are oddballs, so they won't look in to it unless it keeps happening. Has anyone had an experience like this or ever had a period induced? I'm not sure what to think!

I've had to do that a couple of times. They usually use Provera. Take the pill for about 10 days I think and you're period will usually start.

Hi Black Kat,

I had a strange AF like that in January. I forget how long the whole cycle was but it was like 11 or 12 days late. I ended up going in for b/w too just to make sure and it was negative. My RE didn't offer to induce so I just waited and she eventually showed up. It was heart wrenching though because the longer AF stayed away the more I thought I might be pregnant too since that never happened to me before either. I think all these meds we take can mess with AF. I've had 2 cycles since then that have been normal so I wouldn't worry about it being a continueing problem. Chances are it will be back to normal next month. Good luck!

Hi Kathy

I've had to have my period induced everytime I've had one, for the past year. I was fine when i was on BC, but when I went off to TTC AF never came, so I had to have my periods induced. They used provera, everytime. Like the other ladies said, you take the pill for 10 days, then AF will come. It can take up to two weeks after your done with the provera for it to start tho.

Hope this helps!

Heather

Hi Kathy,

I had af induced before i could start the iui treatment as they are so irregular.
I too was given provera 10mg for 5days and they usually expect af to come within 14days - dont worry if it doesnt come straight away i had all the other syptoms of af sore breasts being emotional yet af didnt show until about 8days after tablets were finished however much you think it wont come -it does!
When are you starting this then? this thursday?

Hi Ladies! Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with me! This aspect is completely foreign to me. Jam, to answer your question, I am supposed to let my RE'S office know if I haven't started by tomorrow. I want to find out if inducing is the way to go. I'm afraid if I don't induce, and I don't end up starting, then I'll just lose a cycle. And I wouldn't have any idea when to start my OPK'S, and I don't want to lose any more time. Anyway, thanks again for all your input!

I like Heather have had all of my periods induced. I went off birth control, which i was on for 8 years, and never got one after that. My doctors didnt feel it was necessary to induce before I started clomid and they immediately started me on that. Almost 14 months later, I still have never had a period naturally. I had one after my last round of clomid and all the rest have been induced. It's no big deal to take the pills.
