Hi

Just wondering if a blood test I had for herpes after 4 months of possible exposure would be enough to determine if I didnt have it? I am highly considering having another test done, its been almost 10 months since the incident occurred. I spoke to my doctor 2 days ago regarding the eqivical result for herpes simplex 1 & 2 - and she explained that its most probably something like a virus i have had in the past which is still showing up in my system. The other results read as -

Herpes type 1 - not detected

Herpes type 2 - not detected

I am a very paranoid person, and to be quite honest, its been on my mind every single day for the last 9/10 months. Lost my apetite and can't sleep that well since I got myself into this situation which I am regretting so much.

I get myself into that much of a worry, that I itch really bad and constantly check myself 'down there' for anything.

So all I want to know is, how accurate is a blood test after 4 months?

Ask your doctor if the test was based on glycoprotein G. These are the most accurate tests. They are around 96% effective at detecting the virus. It sounds like you would still be concerned despite the results of such a test. In this case, ask your doctor to look at the lesions and give you his clinical opinion. This in conjunction with the test is the best you can do.
