View Full Version : Nexium and Weight Gain

I was overweight to start with due to being on Zoloft for over seven years. After I came off it, I began losing weight and was within 30 pounds of my goal. Not long ago, I started suffering with chest pains/burning. I had an endoscopy and was told it was acid reflux.

I had alreayd tried prilosec (didn't help) and zantac (didn't help) so they put me on Nexium, 40 mg a day. Wow, after a few days I felt great! The only problem was I noticed my weight loss came to an abrupt hault and I started gaining, despite no change in diet and exercise (follow Weight Watchers and walk/jog 5 miles a day).

I was told over and over that it couldn't be the Nexium. I stopped taking and, a week later, my weight loss was back on. I did research and have found that Nexium can cause weight gain.

So my question is, has anyone ever experienced this? If so, if I try Aciphex does that mean I will gain weight on it as well or are all PPI's different?

Are there any types of natural cures out there I could try?

Thanks!

Try ginger with honey.. I altrenate that with prescribed meds to prevent being drug resistant.. anyways my GI just changed my PPi to Nexium... and I am also concern about the weight issue with nexium.. is it true? I mean I really should gain being only 88lbs... but I want it to be in a healthy way ...

Look into sleep disorders. My acid reflux got really bad and it was partially due to having severe sleep apnea in conjuction with allergies.

Sincerely,
MG

Sleep apnea can cause many other problems and be fixed with a CPAP/ENT surgery.
