HI,
My doctor has recently advised me that i most probably have PCOS... a few years back i had a ultrasound which i was told there was nothing to worry about and my bloods came back fine. I have been some sort of contraceptive since i was 14 either the pill or the depo (which i had for 21/2 years - when i came off this i never had a period for over 9months). I recently (last Oct) decided to have a break from my pill and my first period after that took 2 months and then the following one was approx 56 days and then the next was 36 days i'm now on day 26 so cant tell ya my next one. I decided to see the doctor who advise me that just because you dont have cyst doesnt mean you dont have it. (I do have other symptoms suchs as occasional bad skin, excess hair on chest, neck and nipples but not bad excessive hair. my bloods came back with FSH 1.6, LH 3.4 Test 2.5 Free Andro Index 4.5. She told me that the results suggest that i do have PCOS and if i wanted to concieve or control the symptoms she could talk to me about this ie go back on the pill etc which i have decided to refrain from and now use a personal as a form of contraceptive....
I'm just not too sure if my results really do suggest this as everybody elses result are way different from mine and feel a little in libo?? can any one help

I would definitely say go back on the pill. I had gone a few months without even having a period and as bad as we hate it- it is normal to have one!! I started Yaz in December and I have had a period ever since. I have also seen a change in the way I feel.

An ultrasound if external may not show PCOS. It would need to be an internal and even with PCOS there are false negatives out there if you go through a cycle of over ovulation.

thanks for your advice.... I've booked to go back to the doctors on wed as i want to request a referral to a gyno for the internal test.
What i have noted tho is that since coming off the pill last october symptoms have been alot worse i.e bad skin, hairs on chest/nipples/neck.... but even tho alot of people report heavier periods...mine have become very little over 4 days.
I am going to go back on the pill i just want to get all the test done before i do so i dont alter the test results etc.....
Can anyone give me some advice on what to ask the doctor?.... also i'm confused to my blood results as everyone seems to be a total different range to mine.

When I first got checked back in May of '06, my doctor did the external ultrasound and a blood test. My ultra sound came back normal, but my blood test said I had PCOS. Though I went back 4 months later because of abdominal pain, turns out a cyst formed on one of my ovaries.
I do suggest going back on the pill, yaz or yasmin (sister brands) seem to be common for women with PCOS.
You should ask about Insulin Resistance (usually goes hand-in-hand with PCOS) especially if you're overweight.
