View Full Version : Interesting situation

Hi all in this wonderful forum,

just wanted to see if anyone experienced similar problem in the past. I was told 3 months ago that I have GERD (Endoscopy showed an inflammed esophagus, small hiatal hernia, and mild gastritis). I was put on Prevacid and I think situation really improved for a while. All this time I was very disciplined with diet. Then one week back I started feeling a constant discomfort (like someting sitting in the midle of my chest that is not going away in last 7 days) that from time to time becomes painful and spreads to shoulders. Feel tired almost all the time. Pain gets much worse as evening hours approach.

a) Could it be that Prevacid stopped working and I should try increasing the dosage to two pills a day?

b) Should I maybe try Protonix to see if another PPI helps?

c) My DR mentioned possibility of esophageal spasms and gave mi Librax to try (does not work with me well -headaches, nausea) to possibly
relax the esophagus.

Unfortunately not getting answers can make one pretty frustrated and depressed, but I hope there is a light at the end of the tunnel as I could see in some cases here on the forum.

Thanks all sooo much! Please let me know if you have experienced anything similar and what route have you taken to make it better.

I was also like that.. took PPI for a month and it worked well.. after soemtime it stopped and all my symptoms went back.. I am not even doing anything bad to cause my GERD to come back... but what I did is I try and stopped taking PPI for the meantime like for two weeks. I basically tried alternatives.. like ginger and honey and ACV.. I find that somehow my symptoms also somehow ease off.. then I went back to taking it 2 times a day.. and it worked again.. maybe sometimes u have to let ur body rest to prevent being med resistant... BTW you should consult your doctor first before topping up your dosage... :)

Thanks Chikkie14, of course I consult with DR all the time especially since going through all this is not fun at all, but can be very scary at times.

What symptoms do you have? Did you or anyone else get this wierd pressure like feeling (feel like something is sitting there) that is constant (at the beginning of Prevacid treatment it was not this bad) in the middle of the chest. It becomes painful as evening hours approach. I guess anxiety may even worsen the GERD which was my case when I was going through pain prior to knowing its GERD.

Many thanks.

I have this pain in the centre of chest, constantly. Sometimes it feels like a hot curry burn, sometimes a bubble or stuck food, other times a really hard pain. Constant! Non-stop. None of the PPI's have stopped this feeling.

Thanks ~K~ for replying. I have very similar feeling. Pain in my cases sometime radiates towards either shoulder, but it is always there in the middle of my chest. Did you do endoscopy? Any esophagus inflammation shown? Or hiatal hernia? How long have you had it and have you figured what are the triggers?

Sounds weird, but it looks like watching what I eat really does not help. Guess getting at the bottom of this is not that easy.
