So Im on day 2 of my tonsillectomy and im feeling great! Oh, Im a guy and i'm on my girlfriends account by the way, which she's a great nurse!!! Ok, so we read lots about how painful the surgery is, and well, i went in really scared. We got there, talked to a few nurses, the doctors and everyone re-assured i would be ok. I got my little gown on, IV in, a kiss from my girlfriend, and walked back to the operating room. Everyone was super nice to me, i laid down on the table, got all comfy, breathed in some pure oxygen, and next thing i new I was being waked up by a nurse. At this point, i was told i would feel the most horrible pain, but instead i was pleasantly surprised and felt good, this is because the doctor numbed up my whole throat and i couldnt feel anything in my throat. The nurse's were super nice and asked if i felt any pain, and gave me some more drugs. After just laying around for about 45 minutes, having some sprite and a popicle, the nurses finally wheeled me back to the changing room and my girlfriend was there waiting for me with a huge smile on her face, it was such a relief to see her. At that point, i got dressed and walked out to another recovery room and sat in a recliner and finished my 3rd IV bag and got one more percacet. The nurse sat down with me and went over a bunch of do's and don'ts, emergency stuff in case of bleeding, and that i need lots of rest.

So, i got wheeled out to the car, we went to Target, went and got my percacets and anti-botics, and just went home and went to bed for a few hours.

Oh and by the way, when i woke up from the surgery i was able to talk and i really havent stopped since. Now im on day 2 and feeling good. Ive had jello, pudding, popicles, semi-warm chicken broth, sherbet, and tongiht i tried some warm cream of wheat. So far so good.

Supposedly tomorrow is suppose to get worse, and im hoping against it but who knows. I think so far everything is going great, for having part of my throat removed. I like to look back at it and make sure there is no bleeding. My uvula is swollen and about the size of a quarter, which does make it alittle diffucult to sleep since it covers my throat. It just requires sleeping on my side. And I have a humidifer going since yesterday which is suppose to help keeping my throat moist. Hmmm, and it doesnt hurt to swallow that bad, i have had like 8 glasses of gatorade today and 8 yesterday, im keeping on top of this whole dont get dehydrated thing.

Ok, so i am on percoset right now, so i hope most of this makes sense, i was kind of jumping around with my thoughts. So far this has been a good experience, not horrible like I have read and feared. Oh and my girlfriend is being such a great nurse, that helps out alot.

So i created my own account now and wanted to update my recovery process.

Im now on day 3 and doing well so far. I think the number one thing is staying on top of the pain. I take a Percocet ever 4 hours and then i take the liquid tynelol in between the percocet. So I get a good dose every 2 hours, which seems to not allow any real pain.

Last night I took a percocet at midnight and decided to sleep threw my tynelol at 2am and woke up at 4am in more pain then usual. So I wont be doing that again, im now on a 2 hour interval and i'm going to keep it that way for the whole weekend.

I also got a really stiff neck and back late last night, not sure if that was to do with the surgery or from just laying in bed too long. We got a hot pad and it seemed to help my neck loosen up.

So far today, i'm still sticking with the liquids and not pushing myself. Ive had lots of gatorade, apple sauce, chicken broth, and sherbet. Oh, and letting the sherbet sit out for about 20 minutes and getting it nice and soupy was a nice touch, didnt hurt the throat as much.

I was looking at my throat this morning and it looks good, my uvula is finally starting to get alittle smaller and all the burn spots are now a nice color of white and look to be healing well. And no bleeding what so ever yet.

I would say so far my recovery is nothing like I read it would be and I'm so happy i'm doing such a good job.

It's good to hear that all is going well. I'm having my surgery on 4/23 and having read so many pain stories I was starting to get worried. I'm preparing for lots of pain but staying on top of everything seems like a decent plan. Good luck with your recovery.

Day 4 - So day 4 was pretty much like day 3. I still have pain in the back of my throat, but I keep on top of the pain management and I dont have to feel too much of it.

I'm pretty much just sticking to Jello, Pudding, Applesauce, and chicken broth. Lots of sleep, I got out and went to the movies for 2 hours, that wasnt so bad.

Ive been reading alot about people who get de-hydrated and come on people, i know it hurts to swallow, but just drink, drink, drink. It will save you in the long run, no visits to the hospital, just stuck it up and drink.

So thats about it for Day 4, I just laid around, relaxed, drank lots, took it easy, oh and pee'd lots!
