Hi everyone, I am usually on the TTC board but having had my first consultation with a specialist it seems I have secondary infertility (having been pregnant but not having given birth I guess).
So, thought I would move over here and get my advice from you all :)
I only have one fallopian tube thanks to an ectopic pregnancy this time last year, and despite having been pg again very quickly after that, i had m/c and have failed to conceive again.
I had my day 21 tests a couple of cycles ago and they were fine, so the next step is a lap with dye test to have a look at my remaining tube - I have to wait a few weeks to be scheduled for this. They are also testing DH sample in the meantime although I suspect he is fine (having got me pg 3 times now!). They then said I will do one round of clomid tablets, and after that, if we choose, the only step is IVF because they don't do IUI with 1 tube.
In the interim I had booked an appointment with an acupuncture guy here in London who is often in the press as a "baby-maker" so you never know I guess....seeing him on 12th April.
That's me then, I read all your stories all the time, so I know you have lots of experiences to share and I wish you all babies :)

Thanks
Kelly xx

Thanks so much, these boards are so great hey?

I also just wanted to tell you about a book i just read that I loved and got a lot out of if you like reading....it is by an author called Peggy Orenstein and is called "waiting for daisy" about her infertility journey. I love reading so swallow up anything baby-related, really reccommend it.

Hi Kel

I ll look it up. At the moment i am reading Taking charge of your fertility especially since it was so recommended on these boards. It arrived yest and at first i kind of got discouraged .. . 500 pages. But started last night and found it quite interesting. Although i used to like reading after getting my degree for a 6 yr course i was kind of put off reading. Also its not easy to find the time either.

Hi Kelly,

I'm sorry to hear about your eptopic and m/c. That must have been very hard. I have also had an ectopic, and I lost one of my tubes due to it. I wanted to comment on the IUI...My remaining tube is not so great - it's shaped odd and has many polyps inside, but my dr still tried IUI because we could not afford IVF and wanted to at least try something to increase our chances. I don't want to tell you not to listen to your dr, but if IUI is something you wanted to try and he/she isn't listening to YOU, then I would recommend seeing somebody else, if possible. After all, you're paying them all that money, they should do what you want, within reason. Granted, the IUI didn't work for us, but we only tried it once and then had an amazing opportunity to do IVF unexpectedly. We will be moving onto that shortly. Okay, enough about me. I just wanted to welcome you to the boards, and I felt compelled to comment on the IUI thing.

Good luck with your upcoming lap! Please keep us posted!!

Welcome to the board:wave: I am very sorry for your loss, it is just so hard! I agree with Holly, that I would really push my doctor to do some IUIs, there is definitely a chance with still having one tube!!!! I have learned, you really need to be your own advocate when dealing with IF, you have to read and be knowledgeable and have a doctor that knows that you are part of the decision making process!!!! I will get off my soap box now;) This board is an amazing support system and you will find so much information!!! Good luck to you!

Hi Kel - Just wanted to welcome you to the boards. I, too, am sorry for your losses. I have never been pregnant so I can't relate to your m/c -but I do feel for you and know that it is such a loss to experience. I wish you all the best and know you will find much support here - as I have!

Hi Kelly
Welcome Aboard  and sorry to hear about your loss :(
The people on this Board has been soooooo supportive - I have recently joined this Board and it feels I know most of them since ages.
I had hydrosalpinx tubes and had to remove both. I know IVF is the only option for me to get preg. Had two failed IVF cycles and now going for FET cycle - keeping fingers crossed and trusting God that he would answer our prayers soon.
Just stay positive and there will a way out for you. Good luck with your "Acu Baby Maker". I've heard Acu does increase your chance of conceiving so its worth trying.

Thanks all - you are so welcoming and supportive - thanks for all the good advice already. I am not that great at speaking up so it is something i need to improve to stay in control of all of this I think.

I am interested to hear that I can have IUI if necessary - thanks for that and i will definitely speak to my dr about it. The cost issue of IVF is not such a big thing for me as, if we move onto this in a couple of months, I have already decided to donate eggs at the same time. We made this decision because of how many people I know (from these boards and elsewhere) who are in worse positions than me who could really benefit from this but I also found out that as a side-issue it reduces the cost of a cycle from around £3000 to just a few hundred pounds. I wouldn't do this for financial reasons, but it does relieve the burden somewhat.

I will still enquire on the IUI though - much less invasive as a first treatment I think so worth considering,

Thanks again all,

kel xx
