ok so i finally got to meet with the infectious disease specialist that i saw in the emergency room. He said that herpes simplex 1 rarely reoccurs in the genitals. Has anyone had a reoccurance? Thanks

Any time you are infected with herpes you have it for life. A recurrance is always possible.

i havent had a reoccurence yet (that i know of) it has only been 4 months though, and from what i have read the average time is usually 7 months...?
its hard to tell also because apparently it will not be as severe as the first time, i have felt strange pain there but it has gone away and i havent had any sores appear, but maybe the virus could have been active during that time, but not strong enough to get to the visable outbreak stage.

For me, it's true. I have had, maybe one reoccurance of hsv1 genitally over the course of 3.5 years. and that possible reoccurance was withing the first few months. I think it is generally the case that people don't have reoccurances... based on the fact that 80% of people who have herpes don't even know it. BUT, just because you're not showing symptoms of a reoccurance, doesn't mean you can't pass it on. So you still have to be careful.

I have not had a reoccurrance and it's been a year and 4 months since my 1 and only OB.
