Hello,
I was prescribed Labetalol 100 mg twice a day due to postpartum high blood pressure. My pressure was fine before and during my entire pregnancy. I am now taking 100 mg once a day and want to taper off the medicine. My reading as of today is 124/73.
My question for anyone who has tapered is how you tapered off. Did you cut the tablets in half to 50 mgs for a certain number of days and then completely stop or what protocol did your doctor have you follow?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I was on Labetalol for the same thing. You are on a pretty low dose, so you really shouldn't have to taper too much. I cant' believe I've already forgotten how I did it, but it seems like I dropped my afternoon pill first and then a week later maybe I halved the am pill then a week later dropped it completely? I'm not real sure, but that's how I *think* I would do it :) It's such a shame, because it was only this time last year that I tapered.
I'm pretty sure that Labetalol can be prescribed up to something like 1000mg a day, so dropping a 200mg a day dosage shouldn't be too hard on you :)

Hi,
I'm on 1800mg of Lebetalol. At one point I thought I could lower my dose by 100mg. I got heart palps. Some of us are more sensitive to these drugs than others. What about decreasing 50mg at weekly intervals and see how it goes. It took me a month when I got off Clonidine because I kept getting spikes in my b/p. So monitor your bp as you go. Fam
