Ok so I've been going to a gastro doctor since January. We have run numerous tests which include blood panels, stool analysis, colonoscopy, and small bowel series (x ray with barium.) Still, he wants me to come back and run more tests. The nurse calls me today and tells me that the latest blood panel which was a premethius study showed that there is suspicion of IBD and Chrohns Disease. However, she says that I need to come in to talk to the doctor about further investigation. I've already lost tons of weight, and the other tests were normal. I'm constantly sick, but the doctor doesn't want to really give me any prescriptions. He wants to run the camera test on me. Is this normal to keep running tests without getting medication? What should I do?

It sounds to me like your doctor suspects a problem but is not sure what it is and that is why he keeps running tests.
Most doctors will give you medicine to at least help with what is making you sick (at least to help with the symptoms.)
If you think that your doctor is not helping you it would be good to get a second opinion.
Hope this helps!

Agree, the doctor is looking for what is wrong. He won't give you medicine, cos that will mask and alter symptoms and interfere with the diagnosis. Hang in there, you are lucky to have a thorough doctor.

ok but how do i get started on some type of treatment? if i do have chrohns disease or something similar which is causing me to loose tons of weight and bone and muscle mass, how many more tests is the doctor going to order? Will i never get on anything other than medications for symptoms? how are tons of other people getting treatments? what do they do thats different then what ive already been doing? what if i tell the doctor i dont want to do the pill camera test? i feel confused about the whole process.
