I'm hearing all this information that the silicone implants are better. I thought that they cause problems more so than saline. I'm getting mine done soon to even out my breasts after a lump scare slightly reduced one of them. I want safe implants but ones that look natural. I look pretty full now with Victoria's Secret's wonderful gel filled bras, so no one will notice the difference, I look like a full c-cup. But I want implants that will keep me looking natural and feel comfortable since they will be with me for a long time. Anyone have both and know which is better? I hear sooooo many women changing from saline to silicone!

Get a fat transfer to that area which is alot safer than implants thats just me.

I've heard that fat transfer was also not a good option, too many complications. Also, where would they get the fat from, I really don't have any excess. Did you or someone you know have fat transfered? I appreciate your input. Thanks!!

Yes I know someone who had it done and the doc who did this is very good I used her myself but not for that. The doc's name is Dr Feng in Cleveland OH.
The fat usually comes from stomach depends on how big the area your talking about that you need to fill. I know they can get fat from other areas of the body. The person that had this done did not have alot fat either to work with.

Thanks! I will ask my surgeon about the fat transfer, if that's an option for me. It seems so much more natural.

Who is your surgeon and where is he/she from? Yes that is the reason I would go for the fat transfer more natural. I had breast implants and I hated them and they will need to be replaced and they can leak but some women will tell you other wise and it is good to have other options.

I have saline implants and honestly I couldn't be happier with them. I went from a small B to a full D and they look very natural. Even the people that I see on a daily basis are amazed at how natural they look. I have heard that silicone implants do tend to look and feel even more natural. Now that they have been proven safe I definitely think that it would be a great idea. Of course there are still risks to them and not to mention the jump up in the price tag. If anything I would look into saline tear drop inplant over the muscle for a natural look. If you are still iffy on silicone.

I'ev beent hinking of getting implants for years. I have very small breasts, maybe an A-B cup. When I lie down, my chest is flat. I've always wanted bigeer breasts, so I wouldn't look flat in pictures. I can't wear a lot of dresses or shirts, as they look silly on me. So, recently I've considerd actually getting them, now that I have the finances to consider it. I'm 24, and had a boyfriend for 5 years who could care less what size I am. I would be doing this for me. I know Iwould take a lot of flak from friends and family if they find out (And I know they will, when they see me jump to a C cup!). But it will give me more confidence in myself. No, it wont get me my dream job or make my life holly wood like, but it would make me happier :)
I've been reading about fat transfers...I'm not sure I like it! The fat calcifies, and can leave bumps. A LOT of doctors are against this method, as it makes detection of breast cancer very difficult. Of course, all implant surgeries make it more difficult to detect, but apparently fat transfer even more so. Make sure you talk to two or three doctors, and research carefully before going with any decision!

I know the exact same feeling your are having and it was the biggest mistake of my lift to get implants. I had alot difficulites and that is not ususal to have I had one leak and they bottomed out and never could be fixed. I spent over $20,000 and like I told someone here I could a bought a car for that. I no longer have my implants and happy that I don't have them my health was very bad (Lupus) and now I am feeling much better since they have been removed. To me they were heavy and awkward and I could not lay down on my chest anymore if I had wanted too. They were only B cup and I had these problems. As for the fat transfer that was suggested that was for a small area not to make the whole breast bigger. I know of women who have had fat transfer with no problems because of the muscle was cut and when they wanted them removed there was a huge gap. There is now reseach being done for fat transfer and also growing our own tissue so one day there hopefully won't be implants anymore.

Hi, I love my implants!! I'm 41 and after nursing 3 kids I was left with sagging skin. I had saline implants about 8 years ago and loved them. Just 2 weeks ago I had them exchanged with the new gel silicone and I love them even more. They feel so so so much more natural and look just slightly different. I am very pleased. I would go for the silicone the first time.:)

Thanks for the imput from everyone. But for the women who put silicone implants in aren't you afraid of the possibility of leaking. I was told that there would be constant monitoring if I was to go with the silicone implants. Do they feel lighter than the saline? What made you change to the silicone? I know its alot of questions, but I want to make the right choice the first time around. Thanks.

Silicone Is Way Better. They Look And Feel Better Then Saline. And They Are Safe. The Shell Has Like 2 Layers So If It Did Break It Stays In The Implant. Fat Injections Dont Last Because Your Body Absorbs It Eventally.

Fat Transfers do work they over fill the area with the fat and yes some does absorb. I know someone who did this with great success. It's not for the whole breasts but for spots that are indented. As for implants I would not want those chemicals in my body and yes I had them and now am ill from them and I did have them removed. Just because you ladies have great success with things does not mean everyone does. I think everyone should do their research on what is best for them.

Hi Auntpolly,
I appreciate your knowledge of the subject. But I'm still confused, this last post is regards to silicone implants. I know that there are often risks with this type of surgery, but do you think that the larger the implant the more complications there are health wise? I am not looking for a movie star chest but due to some unfortunate circumstances I am left with little breast tissue, my 78 year old mother has better breast than me. So you see that I don't think a breast lift will be enough, it will make them look smaller.

Saline/Silicone still both have complications the shell of saline is silicone so it does not really matter. I had small implants 330cc and still had the same problems as if someone had 600-700cc implants. I am also very small breasted A cup and living with it. You would be surprised what a surgeon can do even with small breasted women with a lift. On the board where I usually visit quite often the small breasted women get lifts all the time with great success A/B Cup women. I hope Auntpolly can give you more info.

Marie, The size of the implant has nothing to do with more or less complications. Infection, capsule contracture, rippling, hematomas, silicone migration, all can happen.
Saline implants have a silicone shell. So regardless, you have risks with either.
Proponents of implants will tell you the new implants are safe and will not travel through your body even when they rupture. Just remember these implants are still relatively new. The FDA is requiring the manufacturer to do a 10 year study. Great, put them in women and study it later!
I was told my implants would never rupture. We now know this is not true. Time will tell how these new implants really last.
I watched a show where a women had her silicone ruptured implants replaced. When the surgeon took the implant out and the silicone started dripping on the floor, someone yelled don't let that stuff touch my floor. I thought, oh, it is ok to stick in a womans body but not safe enough to touch your floor?!
You say you are small now. What I will tell you is our small breasted women wish they had not gotten implants. When they have them removed, most are even smaller. The capsule that forms around the implant has to be removed also. Along with it comes breast tissue. Some capsules are so thin, the surgeon has to scrape the breast tissue to remove it.
Again I commend you for doing your research before jumping into this. I can understand how you think implants may be your only option. I hated my breasts after feeding 2 children. But with age and experience, comes wisdom. When any one asks me if I would recommend implants, I tell them no way.

Well that is so not true and the way you said that the silicone implant has like 2 layers, well that phrase right there says you dont know what you are talking about. I am sitting here with silicone implants right now and I have a sisster who is sitting at home with large silicone implants. We never did our reserch and are now stuck here with the awful decision to remove or not. I have had mine for 1 year about and my left one bottomed out. They make you wait six months before they will repair the bottomed out implant. I bet you did not know that? So that means you walk around with a implant hanging of your chest and it looks like ****. It is also very painfull how about that. So if you want to play sports good luck on not knoking the implant out of place, yes that happens to. How about if you are in a car acident you have much more to worry about than body injury. Know you have to worry about implants ruppturing and displacing. Trust me one one thing if you get implants the doctores do not take them as emergancy problems you could walk around with a problem for months before they get fixed or what ever needs to be done. In reality you know what you are going to do already no matter what anyone says. So whatever it is good luck hope you dont spend your time crying tears of regreat and tears becuse you know have a problem that no one thinks is an emrgancy. Oh yes when I got mine I had to make myself try to like them it is funny what women go through just to try to feel pretty. And if you looked at before and after photos and saw some ugly boob jobs and think that wont happen to you well geuss what they all look ugly after years go buy. I also want to add when I had my botom out repair I had a new implant put in. My doctor gave me my old one to take home my 4 year old got ahold of it when I took it away it had a little leak real small. I showed my husbend he sqeezed it a few times and a huge tear split the implant right in half and the silicone came right out. Yes some whent back in side after he relised the presure but not all. The silicone is like glue it stickes to everythink I am keeping the implant in a bag on my fridge to reminde me what I am walking around with. My husbend will no longer touch my fake breast he is scared that will happen when they are in me. I am removeing my implants and now have to face what might happen so you should be happy with what you have. My poor sisster has had her implants for 3 years and had a baby whith them in she is so scared about her babies health now. You know when someone wants something bad enough they are willing to puch all the info that is bad out and make exuses about why the bad dosent matter. I belive alot of women hide there true feeling on this becuse they know deep down they made the wrong decision and now feel that is the only option. I mean really how can anyone like big balls inside they are not comfortable at all. My sister talod me not to get them I thought she was just jelouse becuse I would look better how dumb she reall was telling me the truth. good luck if you have kids the cant jump on you or snuggle nicely to you.

Hi Crystaleeann,
I feel for you and your sister, it's such a tough decision to make and I guess when you make it and aren't happy with the results, especially when they cause so many problems, its makes matters worse. I'm happy I started this discussion on breast implants, only because I know that personal experiences are the truth. Do you think you would have felt different if you didn't go with silicone, but saline, which I am learning has its own set of problems. I'm going to future discuss this with my GYN and PS, I still have 2 weeks to decide. Please everyone keep posting, I think it helps everyone!
Thanks Auntpolly, your really swaying my decision not to have them put in, but just go with the breast lift.

Hi Marie,
Saline becomes moldy, fungal water in time. It doesn't flow anywhere so it just gets old resulting in numerous allergies and chest infections. Who would want that inside their chest?
The silicone products currently on the marketplace are not new. They are simply refurbished implant designs from the sixties. Improved in the sense that they are made faster and mechanically with less handling, cleaner than they were in the past. But fundamentally they are the same things that have been around in the past.
Implants misfire. It's the type of technology that does not attract quality. Breast implants serve no mechanical purpose.
No other device terminates to one hundred percent failure after about a decade. Consumer products like a blender or a bicycle would perform better, longer than breast implants.
No other consumer product has one hundred percent adverse events within a decade. If there were there would be no basis to sell the product. The device is not necessary for the maintenance of health. There is no rational basis to sell or promote these things.
Listen to your instincts.
You will be told that they are perfectly safe, that they will last a lifetime. Over time your health will deteriorate and no doctor will want to be a part of your physical wellbeing. Plastic surgery is considered to be outside the realm of normal health practices.
You will be on your own with the results of your decision (and your surgeon's persuasion) to get implants. Adverse events due to implants will leave you alienated from normal society. Is this what you want?

Marie,
My GYN was THRILLED when I had mine removed. She told me she always worried about me. My breast surgeon who had done my biopsy said she was glad I finally made the decision to have them removed. She had recommended it years ago.
Remember, implants can not cause cancer, but they can hide a cancer on the mammogram. Mammograms are now not recommended with implants due to high rupture rates. An MRI is recommended by the FDA. MRI is not covered by insurance. When I was going to have one done to see if mine was ruptured, I was told it would cost close to $1000. That is when I said, forget it. Whether ruptured or not, these things were coming out for good!
I look at my scars now and say they are my battle scars. My battle to regain my health and my natural breasts.
The women posting here just want what is best for you and your health. Society, the media, Victoria Secret, all put too much emphasis on big boobs.
Extreme make over shows make it all sound so wonderful. But do they ever show you the person years down the road. Do they ever go back and ask if they would do it all over again? I am certainly not against plastic surgery. As a nurse I see the benefits of it. But to put some bag of chemicals in your body, there is nothing healthy about that.
If my breasts sag again, I would even consider getting another lift. The lift made me feel beautiful. My husband loves them. I look great in clothes.
You know, many husbands and partners have commented to their wives/partners that they never liked the feel of the implants. There is nothing natural about feeling a blob of gel or water. A natural breast is soft and warm.
If you can find the site that feelinpuney mentioned, you will read for your self the horror stories some women have gone through due to implants. Please don't be one of those women!
