First, you're spending too much time exercising. If you feel you have to exercise every day, if you can't even take a few days off from exercise each week without enormous guilt, if you can't take off a week from exercise because you are ill or have sore muscles, it's a problem.

Compulsive exercise led to my becoming anorexic. First it was the exercise, then the restricting, but the overexercise came first. You've got to break those habits. If you are eating normally, you will not gain weight with normal amounts of exercise (do some internet research on recommended amounts of exercise to maintain fitness).

It's very, very hard to break the compulsive exercise routine, it was even harder for me to break than the restricting. What you first need to do is establish a healthy diet and exercise level. Consult a registered dietician if possible. You're way overdoing the exercise. Then, you need to start curbing your exercise--turn running into walking and decrease the amount of time you spend exercising each day.

Please do also see a therapist. The compulsive exercise has a component of OCD to it (my whole ED had tons of OCD type components). If you can find a therapist who has worked with eating disorder sufferers, that would be even better. If not that, try to find a therapist specialized in cognitive behavior therapy.

My ED started with overexercising as well. [removed] It was a struggle but I have finally gotten myself down to 30 minutes of walking on a treadmill 5 days a week. I am so glad I am not wasting my life away on a treadmill in a gym with a bunch of people I dont know anymore. Id rather spend that time with my family, my dog or a good book. Its taken alot of work to get myself to a place where I can say that and mean it and I must admit that I begin to feel out of control when I havent worked out in several days. But then I ask myself "Who am I trying to impress?" When Im old and look back on my life I want those memories to be full of fun diverse things and not full of hours and hours spent in a gym. Many days I have to just step back and look at the big picture because that helps me keep the perspective on what I want for my future (health) rather than what I want right now. Its hard but its doable because Im doing it...and I never thought I would!
Ive got to give credit where credit is due...the Lord! He has helped me achieve things I could have never done on my own. Just talk to him...he's more than willing to listen.

Hi.
I always gain weight when I start exercising too. You probably know this, but I will mention it anyway...muscle weighs more than fat. It is a dense, compact tissue, and the more stimulation it recieves, the bulkier it gets. Fat takes up alot of room but is a loose tissue. Aside from the good advise you recieved already, I would reccomend spending more time stretching during your exercise routine and a little less time beefing up the muscles. You can't stretch too much (unless it hurts) and it's super important to do it after a workout.
Hope this helps
