Hi! I have had dizzies, dull ear pressure , tinnitus, tight neck and shoulders since sep 2006. I researched on my own after all test came back normal as to what caused my condition. I looked into neuromuscular/TMD disorders and saw that the symptoms are very similar. I went to a specialist in treating TMJ/D and he confirmed that I do have TMJ/D. I too have had no serious jaw pain just tightness. I now wear a splint and do natural therapy the neuromuscular dentist prescribed. I feel better and the dizzies are not as bad since this all first began. I am still doing the VRT just in case its inner ear/vestibular related. My PT seems to think it really isn't TMJ related. But the TMJ doc says yes.
My question for you is : Are you dizzy all the time? I am dizzy 24/7 like I am on a boat, tilting, swaying, sinking, drunk feeling. I have been getting neck massages and it helps a bit. For now I am doing both VRT therapy and the TMD/J.
I too am amazed that the ENT never even mentioned TMD as a possibility.
I hope you get to 100% soon!

I hurt my neck in October and ever since then I hve these symptoms:
Upper back muscle tightness - GETTING BETTER
Neck tightness - GETTING BETTER
Ear Fullness / Crackling - NOT GETTING BETTER!
Dizziness - I find it worst when I get up from a sitting position but I think it's getting better
The Ear fullness and subsequent foggy feeling that I have in my head is MADENNING. I saw an ENT when all of this first happened thiking I had an infection and he said my ears are fine but that if you hurt your neck and/or have jaw issues it can absolutely cause ear problems.
I may go back to him in a couple of months if it doesn't get any better, because it's literally impossible to live like this and do the things you want to do.
I was in an airport yesterday to pick somebody up and I felt my head spinning which also causes anxiety and panic.
I hope it all resolves itself soon.
Best of luck
Hello,
the post where I thought that tmjd accounted for all my problems is very, very old. Someone bumped it up. I was subsequently diagnosed with vestibular neuritis with the added complication of vestibular migraine. In my experience and from what I have read - tmjd will not cause the tilting/swaying etc (this is vertigo by the way) It can cause people to feel a bit out of it and dizzy but not vertigo - your PT is right. What tmjd will do is exacerbate a dizzy condition once you have one by taxing your muscles/causing headaches - things that can hold you back from recovery from an ear injury.
For me the fact that I clench my teeth is bad as teeth clenching can be a trigger for migraine. Often people with tmjd can be headache/migraine sufferers. Are you? If your VRT doesn't work and you don't get better check out migraine associated vertigo - aka vestibular migraine - it is another dx that causes similiar symptoms to VN - in fact the symptoms can be virtually indistinguishable.
best,
Thks hbep for the response. I do not get headaches/migraines. I do often get sore tight neck and shoulder muscles since I've had this but no major headaches. I am doing VRT and I have noticed improvement. The dizziness is getting less intense and I am slowly becoming more and more active again. I have moments were I feel almost normal, so I suppose thats a good sign. Thanks for the info and hopefully 2007 will bring lots of good health.
