Hi I am being treated for planter's faciitis and am seeing a new doctor. She reccommmended (among other things) looking for shoes with a 1 inch heel if I can't wear sneakers. Shoes like Clarks, Rockport, Naturalizer, etc. with a built in arch support. These shoes are pricey! (And not that attractive!)
Has anyone heard of this before I spend a lot of money?
And for people suffering on and off for years (like me) do you have any specific shoe/sandal recommendations? I've been wearing running shoes for years and I'm sick of it!

For comfort & walking I like Easy Spirit. I've tried all that you mentioned but my feel are very sore & I like ES because some of the styles they have are very soft. I like a shoe with a flat heel rather than elevated. I know what you mean about looks, they are not very attractive. The inserts the podiatrist made for me only made my feet worse probably because I have flat feet & they had an arch. I found the gel inserts you buy at the drugstore works better for me. Hope you find something you like.

Good shoes are pricey, but can be WELL worth the cost! (How much would you be willing to pay for pain-free feet?) I have friends who got Danskos, which cost about $100, to help overcome plantar fasciitis and who still swear by them years later. I also appreciate them now that a double bunionectomy enabled me to wear shoes made of stiffer leather-- They don't feel cushy when you put them on, but you can wear them for hours & hours, walk in them for miles, and at the end of day feel better than if you'd worn shoes that seem more comfy. Danskos last for a very, very long time and provide support that makes orthodics unnecessary. In the long run, they're probably cheap! As far as fashion goes they're not beautiful, but at least they don't look like old people's tie-up ortho shoes and they're more dressy than gym shoes. Even though I wear them for practical rather than aesthetic reasons, I've had quite a few people compliment me on my "cute" shoes. They do come in different styles, including some more attractive sandals, but most people find the closed-back clogs to be the best for plantar fasciitis and other problems. Best wishes!

Sammi2 and KathJack
Thanks!
I am looking at different shoe brands online and after I find one I want to go with hopefully I can find them at the mall, to phyiscally try on before I buy.
Have either of you tried Rockports? I found a cute pair for $75-

KathJack:
Did your podiatrist (or friends podiatrist) reccommend the Danskos? I viewed some online and they don't look "padded." My heels are quite tender- although like you said I'd be willing to pay or try anything at this point.
