sania, welcome! I'd love to help but since I don't know your age, gender, skintype, diet or why your skin is black on your knees, elbows and feet please take whatever I say with a grain of salt.

Dull skin usually means dead skin cells have accumulated. You need to exfoliate to remove the dead skin cells and promote cellular skin turnover. For the body, use either a dry body brush before shower or a loofah/washcloth with or without mild scrubbing beads. If budget is an issue, kosher or sea salt can be used as a scrub [but don't use salt or sugar on your face!!! these irregularly shaped crystals can tear the more delicate skin on your face]

Whatever means you use to exfoliate the rest of you, be sure to focus on elbows, knees and feet since they tend to be the driest, hardest parts of our skin. You may even want to gently use a pumice, or lava stone on knees, elbows and feet.

After shower/bath, massage almond oil into moist skin - it'll absorb quickly and not feel greasy, great and inexpensive moisturizer!

I hesitate to give you any advice about skincare for your face since I don't know enough about you, but hopefully this will get you started.

Peace and luck always,

sania

Thanks Dear Athena
i have combination type skin because most of time my nose & forhead gets oily but other areas are dry so it might be a combination skin type , my age is 23 and female. I don’t know yaar but I am getting upset because of my skin I have normal complextion not very fair but I want to have clear & fair skin means no pimpels without any marks on my body and face how can I have this, how the salt can be use on body before bath as it will be dry or can use it by after moistening the body. Whenever I use lava stone I get rashes on my skin so I left to use it.

I will continue to use almond oil, can I use something for fairer skin and to make my skin glowing I used to drink 8,9 glass of water daily and try to eat simple food like vegetables and salads juice etc

Real thanks for your advice
Waiting for your further response

I suggest dry brush massage. This is where you take a natural bristle body brush (easily found on the net), and gently massage everywhere (except face and other delicate areas) before taking a shower/bath. I suggest using Dr. Bronner's organic liquid soap as a body wash. it is all-natural, and contains many helpful oils to hydrate the skin. Almond oil is a great moisturizer, but so is extra-virgin coconut oil. It also doubles as a mild all-natural sunscreen. Also, eat lots of produce and omega fats (fish, nuts, chai seeds, flaxseeds, etc). I also suggest investing in a shower filter. They filter out toxins that dry the skin and hair, such as fluoride, lead, and chlorine. they are also found easily on the net.

sania,

I second dude's suggestion of a dry bristle brush for exfoliation, Dr. Bronner's and lots of omega rich food for general skincare/health. Sounds like you're already on the right track with your daily intake of water/veggies.

In addition to coconut and almond oil, shea butter, avocado oil, and apricot oil are also deeply moisturizing as well. You should be able to find these oils and Dr. Bronner on the net if not locally available.

What are you currently using for facial skincare? It does sound like you have combo skin, which can be a challenge to deal with. I have oily skin, so my routine may not work for you. Check out the thread re: Favorite skincare products, lots of suggestions there.

Peace and Luck always,

P.S. I use a salt scrub in the shower....

I am using an moisturizer with Vitamen A & E before going to bed but I never sleep without washing it with a Bar Soap or Face Wash beause If I don’t I will definitely get a pimple in the morning so I never applied anything on my skin other than this, I have started using Almond Oil after every bath but not on my face, could u please guide me regarding my face care too

As far Sea Salt is concerned I go that but how I can use it, before bath I should slightly rub it on my skin?

Thanks and kind regards

Sania,

I don't supposed there's a Trader Jo's in Pakistan, is there? :jester: I ask because that's where I buy my salt scrub for only $7-8 USD. The list of ingredients is pretty simple - I bet you could make this yourself!

Get a clean tub with a lid [plastic probably OK, but ceramic or glass would be better] and fill it half way with sea salt. Let's see, you've already got almond oil - do you have access to other carrier oils such as apricot, grapeseed and avocado oil?

- Apricot oil is great for skin and hair, you can also use it to make salad dressings.
- Grapeseed is a fantastic antioxidant, + great for cooking and to pour on your morning toast!
- Avocado oil penetrates deeply and provides additional antioxidants.
- Whatever combination of these oils you can find, pour them into the tub half way filled with sea salt carefully - you want to make a kind of thick soup of sea salt and oils; the consistency should be like a thick pancake batter.

If you have any lavendar, rosehip or jasmine oil, not only will these essential oils smell good, but your homemade salt scrub will contain the additional benefits these oils provide. Lavendar is soothing, rosehip oil is deeply moisturizing and jasmine oil is one of the best smells in the world! :D While you're in the shower, just scrub this all over and massage lightly until the salt is nearly dissolved. You can also scoop out a bit in your bath.

Note: Do NOT use this on your face, irregularly shaped salt crystals could tear at your more delicate facial skin. Be sure to rinse out the bath afterwards so no one slips!

For facial skincare, I'd be worried about using bar soap or anything harsh. We tend to think that drying products should be used to control oily skin, but that tends to worsen the problem by causing our skin to think it needs to create more oil - I use jojoba oil as the first step in cleansing; not only does it remove makeup but it closely resembles the sebum [oil] produced by our own skin. It'll melt the gunk that lives in your oily Tzone as well as control oil. It's possible that jojoba oil may be all you need, but my oily skin demands that I follow the jojoba cleanser with something containing salycylic acid [cleans pores].

There's a thread on this forum called What are your Favorite skincare products - you may want to check that out for suggestions, since many different skin types are represented there.

Peace,

I got this tip from someone on this board: take a tablespoon of yogurt and squeeze in a tablespoon of fresh orange juice. Put it on your face for half an hour and it will make it look bright and fresh! :)

My skin is normal-to-oily and I love to use olive oil on my skin. It always makes it look and feel soft and healthy and gives it a glow, and even makes the tone look more easy. Sometimes I massage it on my face in the shower so the steam helps it absorb, then I cleanse my face. I also have a bit mixed in with the face cream I use every night. This shouldn't break you out unless your skin is very oily. Even then I think it would be ok to use once a week.

For my body, I love to take a small container and fill it with sugar and mix in some cocoa powder. This is always a great body scrub for me. You can add a TINY bit of water to hold it together of even better, add in some olive or sweet almond oil to moisturize.

Do they sell gradual tanning lotions where you live? A good one can help make your skin look healthy and give it a radiant summer glow. :)

I'm not sure if they have this in Pakistan, but I've read that Miracle Whip can be used on dry elbows and knees. You just massage it on then leave in there for 15 minutes and massage it off. Oh and make sure to exfoliate about 3-4 times a week! :)

Hope I could be of help, tell us how things go!

Oh I almost forgot! Take a small (8 ounce is what I have) spray bottle and fill it with water, then add in about 5 drops of lavender essential oil and mist on your face whenever you want to. Lavender kills the bacteria that causes acne and hydrates your skin. :)

Can anybody give some suggestion regarding open pores, after moisturizing we got our pores open how we can close them  because in my view open pores become the basic cause of acne
Second thing how we can protect our skin from black heads means what are the basic things we can prevent our skin that there should not become even a single black head bcz it will leave marks on skin.

I know that exfoliating your face (especially your nose!) will help prevent blackheads. :) By the way, has your skin improved yet?

Pores do open and close and I would suggest using a Body Wash with Gylcolic Acid such as MDskin Care Body Wash. Works fantastic on cell turnover and if suffer from body breakout it will clean it up real quick!

There's actually a lot of debate about whether or not pores actually do open and close - I only have anecdotal evidence to support my claim that pores DON'T actually open and close, they only appear to do so. I do know that now that I no longer steam my face and have changed my routine, pores appear to be smaller than they were one year ago. :D
