Prior to the onset of my inner ear problem, I had a really bad sinus cold and soar throat for a week as well as plugged ears for 3 weeks. My otoneurologist dx'd me with chronic base line injury, no clue what that means and i've ******d that to high heaven with no info.
Does labrynthitis only mean that it's the spinning vertigo? I dont have the spinning type but i'm almost certain it was a virus. Just curious to know how inner ear viruses affect people, would love to hear some stories and input into what common labs/virus syptoms are.
Thanks,
Berlin

Live...I am diagnosed with vestibular neuritis. Mine started with spinning vertigo (mine severe)..then left with imbalance, dizzy, fullness in ears...on and on...but no hearing loss. Labs is often with hearing loss. Both can be started by vertigo, or can start with just feeling "off"...imbalance.

Hello,
You should have a look at the information archive at the top of this board. In there is a site called Dr Rauch's otology clinic. He does brilliant short video clips where he - a neurotologist - explains in lay person temrs what you are going through and how people recover.
The sensation you describe of a feeling of movement where there isn't any would be classified as vertigo. Vertigo doesn't have to be full spinning vertigo - that is only one way it manifests.
Your symptoms are pretty classic for vestibular neuritis - (this is labyrinthitis without the heating loss) As you will probably know from this board, there is another condition called migraine associated vertigo - or vestibular migraine that can have very similiar symptoms. As your started with a virus the most likely explanation is vestibular neuritis.
Go through the info article, check out the video clips I talked about - there are a lot of other good articles there which will tell you about your condition. People recover through a process called compensation. Dr Rauch explains this in one of his clips. They also often do VRT - vestibular retraining therapy - if your doc hasn't spoken to you about this, ask him/her. It could help you recover more quickly.

Sounds like it to me.... I never had spinning vertigo either..... Even thugh Doctors say it 'always' manifests in a certain way, that is for the most part never true.

You have vestibular neurotitis? can you tell me more about it as I think that is what I have, some of your symptoms, the duration, did you start to feel better ever?? What did your docs tell you??

Dizzy...I am from Maine also...
August 06 I got sudden, horrible vertigo. After a trip to the ER...I was told I had a virus, given meclizine and sent home. In the morning the horrible vertigo was gone..but what I was left with:
Ear pressure, head pressure, brain fog, imbalance, bouncy vision, visual crap, terrible in stores due to lighting, could not drive (for a month or two)....
I got started with exercises, vrts in Sept. I have been doing them religiously for 7 months. I am better. I just got back from Virginia to visit family. 12 hours 1 way drive...and loads of visual stimulation.
Only 3 months ago...I would have never have tried this. Now what I am left with is a bit of visual crap, some head pressure when really busy, woozy when really busy. I am now doing much of what I use to do.

Thats great you are feeling better. Luckily I don't have any ear issues really just feels full sometimes but have not had any buzzing or hearing loss which leads me to believe it is VN. My visuals haven't been terrible my eyes get tired quicker I guess. What did your docs say about the meclizine and how long did you take it? Did the majority of your symptoms hold on for the full 7 months??I am just hoping this clears within the 6 to 9 weeks period as my anxiety will just escalate.

Dizzy...try to stay off the meclizine if you can. It limits compensation. The symptoms disappeared month to month. The brain fog got less and less. I noticed the most improvement at month 6. I am having almost "normal" moments now. Times when I actually don't notice it. Remember you will have good days then bad days....healing is not linear.

Just stressful to think I may not have normal moments for another 4 1/2 more months. What are my chances of healing before that or is that pretty much the norm?

Dizzy you have a good chance that you could heal before that. However, you have to keep doing things...even when they make you ill..and stop taking meclizine...
