View Full Version : Not sure where to start

I just found out that I need to avoid:

all dairy
wheat
all citrus fruits
strawberries
nectarines
raspberries
red currants
strawberries
all alcohol
egg whites

I'm not sure where to begin to find recipes and such. I am a mom of two young children and a full time student so all of the food that I have made for dinners before now are out of the question. Just a bit overwhelmed. :dizzy:

Any words of wisdom?

Sorry about your news. In healthfood stores there are all kinds of breads with alternative flours which are egg and dairy free. You can also eat sandwiches with corn tortillas. Warm them up in a dry frying pan for about 30 seconds each side. There are also milk alternatives in these stores (soy, rice and nut milks, etc.)

Soysilk.. milk replacement.. all flavors. I use it. In your regular grocery store.
Wheat.. you can buy potato bread and rolls.. rye.. there are options out there.

You can use the yolks not the whites in baking, but this is going to change the consistancy some and increase your cholesteral intake.. looking into applesauce as an egg replacement. Note apples are not on your allergy list and we are hardly ever allergic to them.

The fruits just don't buy 'em and eat them for yourself. But make sure you get the vitamins you need by supplament of the right veggies.

In cases of allergies of the strength 1-2. Your anti-histamines should handle any slips. But you should make your own food whenever possible.

Wheat can be avoided, you can buy barley and rye flour and make your own bread. Or buy the specialty breads for even more.

Meat and veggies are not you problem.. so you still have plenty to work with.

Do a search on recipes for milk egg and wheat allergies? There are some great sites out there. I am in a larger boat than you, but am handling it well and eating better than I did before knowing my allergies.

Keep an eye on your kids.. they are likely to develop allergies as well..

Good luck, take a deep breath and relax. There is a lot of help out there a nutricionist might be worth seeing they should have access to many different cooking techniques. I would bet there is one your allergists recommend.

Respectfully,
MG
