Hi everyone, I'm Becky and new here.
I've recently been diagnosed with high blood pressure. When I went to the doctor, I had chest pains and was sweaty and red in the face. He sent me to ER where my blood pressure was 221/186. Anyway, after spending 5 days in the hospital,,,they ruled out any heart problems or pulmanary problems. I am now taking metroprolol (25mg) and Isosorb Mono (30mg). For the last week or so, my husband has been taking my blood pressure (he's retired medical corp in Navy) and it's been around 148/98. So, I see some improvement. But, I'm still having chest pains and funny heart beats (papalations?) Also, they discover I'm anemic...hemoglobin level is 9 and ferritin is 10 so they want me to take Iron (which makes me sick) and b-12 and folic acid. 7 years ago I was diagnosed with Thalassemia, but this is Iron deficiency anemia. Also, yes, I've been know to have panic attacks.
OK,,,sorry for so long. Any suggestions????

When blood pressure is high you can get the heart flutters and pain till you get it back to around 120-130/75-85. So you still have some numbers to go down to. Hopefully when all your meds kick in completely, your other symptoms will also calm down. Takes about 3 to 4 weeks usually for the full effect of the meds to kick in. So as it is coming down, keep up what you are doing and see if all gets better. If not, ofcourse notify your doctor.
Also, some of us need a calcium channel blocker to calm our hearts (you are taking a beta blocker also used to calm the heart, my doc prefers calcium channel blockers, you can't take both so just give yours a change to work). I use 100mg CoQ10 daily in addition to my regular bp meds and it has really helped calm the palpatations I was having. This is all pretty much trial and error with our meds till the magic combo is found.

MS58,
I was not aware that beta blockers and calcium channel blockers do not mix. I have been on both for 4 months now (Apo-Labetalol 800mg/day, Felodipine(Renedil) 10mg -used to take Norvasc but was switched to Renedil.) I will ask the pharmacist but doubt that will change anything. I am on drugs I should not be on - the warnings on the info sheets say so - (based on my health issues) so just sort of have to hope for best. By the way, CoQ10 is great. I started taking it not long ago because I was prescribed Lipitor for lowering my cholesterol levels. Going off of it now-it started affecting my leg muscles badly, before too much harm is done. Will keep taking CoQ10.

I read about the calcium channel blockers and the beta blockers when checking out something or other about my meds and that is what I recall as they both do something similar but checking with your pharmacist is the best call.
CoQ10 does good things.
