View Full Version : Allergy Med Question

My daughter is 5 years old and has been on Singular and Zrytec for over a year now. This is done as maintainence meds. I assumed that this would help to keep her allergies at bay. About 3 weeks ago, she had a bad allergy attack (running eyes, deep cough, runny nose and fluid behind her eardrums). It only lasted about 3 days. Well, it's back again, just as before.
Did I assume wrong in thinking that these meds would reduce the allergy problems? I would appreciate any input. We have an appt. with the ENT next week for possible testing, but he has already told me that she is on the best allergy medication available.

Go see an actual allergy doctor. An ENT is not as skilled as an allergist. There is no such thing as "the best" allergy medication. Everyone is different when it comes to allergy meds. You definitely want to get an allergy test done.

Allergy testing should be performed.. you may need flonase in addition to the current medications. The thing to worry about is your child developing an intolernce to the allergy meds prescribed.

My daughters allergist put her on Singulair. It was my understanding it should help the sinus drainage, allergies & asthma. After months on Singulair I couldn't tell she was any better. The side effects for her was joint paint from the Singulair so I decided to take her off it. I tried her on allegra & Claritin & couldn't tell much difference on them either. At present she takes Benadryl when she has a sinus drainage. Good luck!
