what are the odds of being diagnosed with an inner ear infection and actually having lyme disease.

now that ive crossed the year and a half mark im trying to make sure im not missing something. ive read that lymes disease can cause balance problems

can being dizzy be the only symptom of lyme disease or would you need to have the joint pain and other symptoms of it to be worried about it.

I belive lyme is caused bu ticks, or some bug like that... and If I'm correct this has clearly evolving symptoms like some aches, that ara hard to pass by, to a doctor I mean.

But I'm really wildguessing here... can't tell for sure.

yeah basically. i was dx'ed with viral inner ear infection and told that it would take a long time to go away as my brain has to compensate for the damage done to the vestibular system

when i 1st got it i had the horrible headaches and everything and now im left with just a weird head feeling on and off and anxiety

no joint pain or anything like that

does any one else worry about lymes disease?

Lately I've wondered about this because I keep getting hammered with myalgia and arthralgia for no good reason (have had it off and on for years really but worse now). But according to the literature, there is almost always a skin rash of some sort. I never had that. The arthralgia also attacks the knees quite heavily and that's never happened to me either so unlikely.

Yes, lyme disease was often a worry of mine... But Ihave been tested for it about 5 times so I kinda dropped the thought......

But yes, lyme disease can be a cause.... sometimes a sign of lyme disease is that when you initially take antibiotics, the symptoms of your illness get worse as the bacteria is killed and releases toxins into your body.

Also, with lyme disease it is important to find a LLMD, Lyme literate doc to help diagnose..... I too have had this issue and it seems to be chronic for me as everytime I test my ears, I get hammered.... Lik right now, Ijust started feeling dizzy for the last 3 days.... I have pink eye atm (viral??) Not sure if thats the reason, but its eems silly to me.

thanks for the replys

would you have inner ear damage from the lyme or would the dizziness be coming from your brain? like my ENG test came back with a weakness in my right ear so we know its coming from inner ear not the brain

i just want to know if i should be concerned about it and if anyone else was ever worried about it

subs.....any thoughts?

CandR,

At the end of the day there are a ton of illnesses that bring dizziness and other symptoms with them that we could think "is this me"? It's easy to think there's something else going on. Lyme disease or MS are two that someone could say fits the symptoms of VN. I'd say if you had Lyme disease, a doc would have hopefully worked that out. I haven't heard you complain about myalgia either or the tell tale rash of Lyme disease. VN damages nerves in some and nerves take years to sort themselves out hence the long period of chronic compensation (and sometimes decomp). Remember what Rauch says - it's like learning a 2nd language and that takes forever for some but not for others. Of course if you thought you were not slowly making progress and were constantly being hit with stuff that seemed like more than decomp, it would then make sense to chase up other stuff like migraine etc.

S

ps. Lyme disease doesn't damage the inner ear per se. Instead it causes neurological problems creating things like dizziness and mylagia.
