If not teething does he have a fever? Anything bite him that is causing him discomfort? To gassy? Or lack of bowel movements could cause him discomfort too.

If he's teething when I was a nanny I used to freeze carrots for the baby that I took care of during her teething time to help with the pain. There are toys that have water in them to freeze that are made especailly for teething. You can probably feel with your finger the teeth under the gums even though they are not cutting through. That is if he is teething.
Try ambosal also to numb his gums.

He could have colic, my sone had colic for a couple of months, cried all the time, it hurts them really bad, that was 35 years ago and they had nothing to give him, maybe they do now, ask your doctor.

Colic isn't a disease, but a pattern of excessive crying with no apparent cause. This frustrating and largely unexplained condition affects about one in 10 infants. Colic usually starts a few weeks after birth, peaks at about 6 weeks of age and usually improves markedly by your baby's third to fifth month.

The cause of colic isn't known. In the past it was thought to be related to the digestive system. Although painful abdominal gas may contribute to colic, there's little evidence to prove it's due to gastrointestinal problems.

lack of contact - some babies want to be cuddled all the time
startling - due to a jerky movement or sudden noise
undressing - most babies don't like the feel of air on their skin
temperature - is the baby too hot or too cold?
pain - is there an identifiable source of pain

Hi
I used to use Mylicon (for infants) gas drops for my twins. It helped alot.
Warm baths help soothe, even infant massage. If you suspect teething, try infant ibuprofen. My babies couldn't eat the rice cereal, (I had 3) they would get constipated. Hope this helps a little!
