View Full Version : Do they test you for HIV when you're pregnant??

Well, I got tested in December for every STD and I ended up having chlamydia. My current boyfriend had just gotten out of a serious relationship around the time I was tested, and I'm pretty much sure that he was clean at that time, as he said he was tested and faithful with his exgirlfriend. Well, before I got together with him, he had unprotected sex with this girl. Who, as far as I know, sleeps around a lot. (She is friends with one of my friends...)

Well, I have had unprotected sex with him a couple times. I mentioned the chlamydia, because I believe I had sex with him before it was completely gone, gave it to him, and he gave it back to me, and I know that it is easier to get HIV if you already have another STD. I am a hypochondriac, and I did get a sore throat and I kind of still think nothing of it, because for about every month since September, I have been getting sore throats, and I met him in late December. (And I hadn't had sex with anyone since Augest, and got tested in December, and that was negative.) I don't have any symptoms, aside from the occasional sore throat that I've been getting for months.

Well, it ends up now that she is pregnant. (Not with his baby, she's too far along for that, as far as I'm aware.) So, she would be 5 months pregnant now. If she was HIV positive, would she or her doctor be aware of this by now, or do you not go through anything like that with pregnancy? I have asked her before if she had gotten tested for STDs, and she said she had. And I believe she would tell him or I, since I've talked to her about it, if she found something like that out.

The only thing that causes me to be concerned is the way that she looks... She has dark circles around her eyes, but she is a big drug user, so it could possibly be from that. I know she does coke and crack and that she was addicted to crystal meth for a long time. Which only causes me to be more worried, because you can also get HIV that way.

I failed to mention, I believe she is the only way either of us could possibly be infected.

I'm sorry. I just read that huge post that is sticky noted up there. And it answers this question.

Usually they do blood work. But it depends which state you're from. It's best to request it.

they don't test unless its somehow requested, they are trying to make it a law in some states that will have manditory testing for all mothers to be, but the laws haven't been passed yet.
