The tube for the port pulled out a little while getting chemo for my lung cancer and the chemo leaked and pooled around the port causing severe internal burns. Has this ever happened to anybody? The doctor is acting like this had never happened to him before and doesn't know what to do other than wait for the area around the port to heal before removing the port. This happened a few months ago and it doesn't seem to be healing. I want the port to be removed but I'm told I still have to wait. If anyone has ever heard of chemo burns please write me with your experience or what you know. Thanks.

OMG! I'm so sorry that happened to you! I hope it heals soon for you. Have you got a second opinion about removing the port? Maybe that's something to think about? Your Dr. doesn't sound like s/he is doing much about it. I hope you get it resolved soon.

Hi
Sorry to hear of your bad experience. When my husband had his first chemo while receiving alternative care in Houston they put the chemo in his arm and they burned he outside of his arm and it tooks MONTHS for it to heal and that was on the outside. He had that happen in June 05 and to this day he even has a permanent burn mark that is brown that is about 2 inches long. I hate to think about the burn on the inside considering his was on the outside and I saw how terrible it was. I do hope it heals soon. Is that keeping your from getting more chemo or just from replacing the port?

I had a second port put in on the other side to get treatment and it's working fine. I'm sure this burn will be a bad scar. That's for your feedback.
