I posted about this already, but I think I put it in the wrong place. I have a low blood pressure apparently. Does anyone know what causes it and if it's treatable? Or does it fix itself? MY doctor said low blood iron can be the cause of it. I'm taking Palifer for low blood iron but my doctor didn't pescribe anything for my blood pressure.

I also have low blood pressure. What does your bp typically run? Mine goes from 85/45 on really bad days to 117/65 on good days. Do you have any symptoms? I have read that doctors typically don't consider low bp a problem unless you have accompanying symptoms. As for whether or not it "fixes" itself...lots of people just have naturally low blood pressure, have had it their whole lives, and it does not harm them.

I DO have symptoms with mine, so my doctor told me things that will help. Eating a lot of salt raises it. I try to add as much salt as I can without gagging to my food and I drink V8 and eat a lot of processed food with high sodium content. Making sure you aren't dehydrated keeps it up as well. Drink tons of Gatorade or Smartwater or other sports drink with sodium to make sure your electrolytes are high. Also, drinking a lot of water, like 16 ounces, in a short period of time, like 20 minutes, will raise it for about two hours. I have also noticed that when I get really sleepy or deprive myself of sleep, my bp goes down. So get enough sleep. And heat lowers it, so avoid very hot showers and exercising outside when it's very hot.

My doctor has no idea what causes my low bp. Heart conditions like thick heart walls or mitral valve prolapse can cause it, but I had an echocardiogram and it came back totally normal. Hormone disorders like hypothyroid can also cause it, so I am going to see an endocrinologist.
